G92 8800gts 512mb Tested!

Awesome find there Mr Smith. Seems the G92 chips are easily beating the ati's in the DirectX 9 department which is where I will probably be for a while!

The new 8800gts does seem give a fair bit more fps over the 8800gt. What attracts me more though is the cooler, its a lot quieter under load and temps are lower. I'm gonna keep an eye out on the prices around Dec 11th and hopefully get one :D

Edit: Can't seem to rep you at the moment "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Mr. Smith again.". Guess that means no-one else has been worthy of my reps since I last repped you???

£199-249 are the prices that are floating around at the moment.

Meant to be $70 more than the GT, which has an RRP of £150, so thats £199 after coverting $ to £ and adding on abit more.

RRP will probably be £199 but retailers will sell them for £249 if they're in short supply!

Will teh current GTS water blocks fit these new GTS fine ?

Why on earth didn't they put a GTX and/or ultra in for the comparison.

Apparently, the card just turned up out of the blue and he didn't have any GTX/Ultras lying about....

I wish things like that happened to me

Very nice find! I hope they can actually supply the demand with it being xmas soon and all, cause I want a 8800GT or this for xmas.

God, will you ever stop copying me Timmy

Has anyone else seen any other reviews?

I can't make any decisions based on this review alone, I need multiple sources to draw any conclusions - I'm intereseted in: OC'd GT vs OC'd GTS @ 1920x1600.

I'm starting to think the GTS doesn't offer much of a boost over the GT. As much as I dislike the GT I'd be even more peed off if I swapped out the GT for the new GTS not to be able to notice the difference.

People keep banging on about a dual card like the gx2, that might be worth getting in evga flavour to do the step up to the new D9E (think the nomenclature has changed, no 9800 anymore).

New hardware. Need it. Want it.

Yeah, Im definitely waiting for more reviews next week as I really don't trust the TT one.

I can't see nvidia putting a lot of R&D and money into a card that gains 1% over their current card, sounds absolutely pointless for them to even manufacturer it for those gains.

Im waiting for more reviews next week then Ill order one and a new GPU block!

Yeah, the only explination I can give is the drivers were borked as they aren't final.

I suppose the differences aren't massive though - few extra stream proccys, higher clocks... Thats it really. It's like the GT went to they gym for 2 months, sure there are some gains but nothing to write home about...

Edit: Kempster, are you getting one at launch for a review?

Looks like the same speed as a GTX, mebbe a little slower

lol - which is exactly what all the reviews for the GT said when it came out!

There should be a marked improvement over the GT.

Mr Smith I feel your pain. I want to run stuff full for quite a bit into the future. ATM my best choice (correct me if im wrong) is to get a 8800gt 512mb EVGA, wait off as long as possible into the 3 months before stepup has to occur and then go for whatever is out then. There is no definitive winner at this point in time - only substitutes for the time being. I say EVGA or just wait unfortunately :(
