Call me a conspiracy theorist but this is how I see this going.

- Prices stabilise
- It becomes the "new normal" and this happens to GPUs, SSDs etc. too
- Enthusiast PC ownership becomes even more of a luxury than it already is at the current price points
- PC/Gaming enthusiasts are forced down the route of GeForce Now or other server based solutions
- The rise of these solutions puts further pressure on the price/availability of GPUs, RAM and so on
- Companies like Nvidia dive into their Scrooge McDuck pile of money because we've all now entered into a subscription with them and other providers selling these services.
- The death of home PC ownership (apart from for the super wealthy).

I love tech and when it comes to AI, I think the potential it has for things like research, medicine and so on are fantastic. But for average consumer use and the way that rogue governments/bad actors are using it to manipulate and scam... We're not even that deep yet and I already think f**k AI.

RAM is a commodity. All we need is something to make the demand dip. Eventually, new factories will be built to meet demand. Then all we need is the normal boom/bust cycle for memory to kick in. If it doesn't, I do fear the "you will own nothing and be happy" future will be forced on us.

If OpenAI and others continue to burn money without profit, demand for AI will plummet. It's a matter of when, assuming no crazy breakthroughs happen before then.

I agree with you on the burn without profit point. Obviously the scenario I listed is something I hope doesn't become a reality, but the barriers to entry for a new chip fabricator are very high, so it's going to be interesting to see where that supply does or doesn't come from
