FX8350 seems rather hot

So im using the h100i with my FX-8350 and at stock settings (4.0ghz @ 1.32 volts) it seems to get really hot even if i run the fans full tilt and my ears are bleeding. The temps im getting on a linpack occt are around the 56C mark and i thought that was quite high.
I run the cooler as exhaust in the roof of an Arc Midi R2 with the rear 140mm fan as an intake and the two 140's in the front also as intakes. The Gpu is a Gigabyte windforce R9 280x (if that matters since its idle'ing when i run occt)
Is the stock thermal paste bad or whats the issue?

Heya :)

Are you reading the CPU Temperature or the Package Temp?

The CPU Temp that AI Suite reports as well as others is that of the "Socket". There's a soft recommended limit of 70c depending on motherboard quality.

What I suggest doing is downloading HWMonitor and focusing attention to the "Package" Temperature. This is the actual temp of the cores you want to keep an eye on and below 62c.

Failing that then I would suggest you re-seat the H100i with some new thermal paste (The stock pre-applied paste is actually very very good and shouldn't pose any problem). I had my 8350 @ 4.8Ghz with 1.48v on a H100i on quiet fan speeds with the temp hitting around 55c.

Yeah i was looking at the "core temp" in HWmonitor but what you're saying is that i should look at package temp? (red circles)

Yes the package temp is what you should focus on here also take in to account the 15c discrepancy so your actual package temp is more like 39c and not 24c it's just the way the AMD thermal algorithm works seeing as there is no physical thermal diode like Intel use you don't get a perfect reading especially at idle.

well it is rather chilly where i live but i did hear that idle temps weren't very accurate but load temps are fine. Anyway thanks for the help guys, now that i can go over 1.38 volts, i might actually get more than 4,6ghz out of this chip :)

Overdrive is the best for temperature monitoring for the FX cpus. I use it as it seems to be more accurate then the others.

-edit- the stock thermal paste that comes with the h100i isn't anything special but it should do the job.

does anyone know if you can use amd overdrive when you have a nvidia gpu, without is screwing around with the video drivers
