FX53 isnt working on mobo

Thats pretty much the long and short of it.

Download utility and bios, select all 3 update options (i normally do), open the bios file, and then let it flash the bios.

You can select the clear cmos option, but dont do this before writing down all of your current BIOS settings as you'll need to set them all back afterwards.

Eeeek!!

Hope I'm not too late. That board actually supports EZFlash, which will flash the BIOS via Windows, it should be on the mobo support CD.

Dont worry your not too late lol. Thats the system I used and yes updating the BIOS was easier than I thought. So I have the most upto date BIOS, I cleared the CMOS restarted and it works fine.........on my old AMD 64 3400. I tried the FX53 and again all that happens is the fans start up and the drives post! aaarrrrrrgggggghhhhh lol.

Any other ideas?

oh and my mate mailed me back, he tested it before sending it and it worked fine. I know him well enough to know he wouldnt take the urine lol

doesnt mean it wasnt damaged in transport. you tried stripping the machine down to the basics and resetting the cmos?

aint done that yet, gotta just a little frustrated with the whole thing and left it till tonight lol. I even thought I flashed it wrong but im running the 1.1E version, when I used the winflash I ticked the clear cmos, even tried the jumper option you highlighted yesterday :(

Will try the basics option tonight dude

Tried the stripping the system down to the basics lastnight and again all that happened is the CD/DVD Drives posted, fans started and nothing else :( That mean the CPU is fritzed?

Well I went back to my old processor and everything works fine (BF2142 works a treat :) ). The mobos only 6 months old and whenever I add/remove stuff pc goes off its unplugged, power buttons pressed to discharge any power left in it, grounded then the work is done. If it is the cpu how can they be messed up ie a mobile ringing by the side of it, a magnetic source wiping it?

CPU' are pretty tough to kill actually...but it does sound dead

I know FX chips are very picky with RAM - have you tried some different RAM at all?

Yeah, Ive tried using the corsair ram that I got with the chip and the bog standard ddr stuff I got with the pc. could thermal past on the pin side of the chip make a difference? I just noticed a little bit of it on that side of the chip

Yeah if it's AS5 or another conductive paste it could short out the pin.

If the CPU was retail then clean it up and send it back to AMD for an RMA ;)

CPU's aren't sensitive to magnetic fields to a degree that it would be easy to damage a CPU from magnetic exposure. Hard drives are what you have to worry about :)

TBH sounds like that chip is messed.

Edit: Does ur mobo have a POST-LED?

there was some on the underside of the chip when it arrived, does this mean its totally fudged? or can I use some cleaner to clean it off and it'll work? I really hope so or my mates ears are gonna be ringing when I speak to him next

Frag, all it has is a speaker and the boards wired to the power and hardrive led on the case. thats about it.

Think I need to get some fresh air and a smoke atm, aint a happy bunny at all

Thanks to all :)

More than likely it would still work if you cleaned off all of the pins and made sure that your ZIF was also clean of any debris. Now if the short was between a power pin and some other pin it could have been fried. Chances are that didn't happen though. Give it a good cleanin' and try it again.

Whats a ZIF? that the actual socket? and you know where the pin is on the chip? lol. I got me fingers, toes and erm............2 veg crossed atm lol

ZIF = Zero Insertion Force (Socket).

I don't understand the second question I don't think... Are you asking if I know which pins are the power pins? If so, I have noooo clue, sorry bud. You can probably find a diagram of the pinout of s939 and find the power pins that way.

Soz bout that, my fingers werent working as fast as my brain lol. That was meant to say do you know where the power pin is? lol. I'll google for it later

Oh and big ups for the kev pic :)
