Free NAS software

Thinking about setting up a NAS here at home. Do you know of any good free software for it that you could recomend me?

I have no personal experience with it, but I played with the thought myself. One thing that came up on Google and seemed promising from a quick first look, is FreeNAS 8.

I used freeNas in the school i work in and at home and its pretty good mate simple to set up if you follow the instructions online if u get stuck i found there is loads of info dotted around on net
