Fractal Define r5 and Corsair H110i gt placement

Hi guys

I've gotten myself a new case and cooler. Now I am still debating as to where I am to place my H110i gt cooler. I have given some thought about placing the radiator in the front section. Purely based on my desire to keep things quiet.

I need to cool down a i7 930 (socket 1366) that clocks nicely up to 4.4ghz. Having the rad infront would allow me to pull in cool air, and then use the rear fan as exhaust.

Any suggestions?

I tend to favour using them as an exhaust at the top and having everything else as an intake for the sake of positive air pressure. I do not think you will see a massive temp difference doing that if any at all

putting it in the front wont make it any quieter - just put it in the roof and use the software to set the fans to quiet - simple.

I wouldn't listen to Tom he's sometimes wrong , I'd put it in the roof and set the fans to quiet in Corsair link.

Welcome to the OC3D forums by the way.

I have to agree here if it's silence you're after.

The major issue with the R5's sound dampening is that it's all a massive waste as soon as you take to top covers off as the entire top is literally all mesh. It will also cause a lot of dust to fall into your case easliy.

No, I'd mount it in the front to keep things quiet, or switch to something like an H440 where you can have it in the top without sacrificing silence.

Hows dust going to get in when its on? Ive used loads of the fractals and as long as he has the fans on quiet they will be. They will be as noisey if not noisier in the H440 once you factor in airflow restriction

I meant cause the mesh spreads from side to side, while the H100i isn't that wide at all. Also, my PC spends about as much time on as it does off.

But the dust thing was only really an additional bonus to mounting it in the front, as the main point is that it'll be more silent.

If you really want to achieve optimal acoustic and thermal performance it would make more sense to run a Fractal S36 with the fans at a fixed speed in the roof. Undervolt the pump down to 7v, that would be sweet.

Dont give advise when youve not used it - the pump doesnt make any noise at 12v!

Also to Feronix - putting it in the front wont make it any quieter if its set up properly in the first place.

Then you know its silent

It is categorically not silent and it is notably quieter at 7v compared with 12v. Before you or anyone troll's, I have checked with Fractal and it is within spec to run it at that voltage/speed. I have tested it both in and outside of rigs totally independent of other components wired directly to multiple PSU's.

Similarly my H105 was audible, after you made a remark that if you can hear it then it's broken I RMA'd it. The replacement was identical, so I asked for a third unit which was again identical. After making an arse out of Corsair and myself I ended up with two H105's and a Kelvin all sat on my desk so I tested them all alongside each other. At 12v the H105's were pretty loud and the Kelvin similar but a slightly more pleasant pitch. Undervolting the Kelvin it sounded significantly better, not silent but quiet so that's what i'm running at the moment.

I have owned a H100, two H100i's, three H105's, a D5 loop and a DDC loop, In a quiet environment they are all audible and so i've no reason to believe any were defective. I think I am entitled to my own opinion.

Yours might be a bit louder than mine then fella, I ran it without fans and I couldnt hear it sat next to the rig with the door off.

I always tell people to run their pumps at 12v because if its a decent design even in a silently tuned rig you should never hear it. You must have the hearing of a bat or something fella because Ive never heard a pump when being used in a system. You have to put your ears on them to hear them normally. The fans on the system even silent would be louder.

FYI this isnt an attack at you so please mind your tone fella.
