The 5870's seem more than capable of running these game's at decent frame rates. Not that i'm trying to correct your post, i'm sure it will bring quite a few of the older cards to their knees.

A patch for 1 to make it 'compatible' in october, and 1 being released in october that is native.

Then an estimated w8 until Feb '10 for 2 others.

STALKER is a big enough game, but if u don't particularly like it...

Don't like the sound of the wording 'compatible'. This makes me think of software that won't run in an environment unless it has the patch.

Thinking of other games that might need a patch in order to just run, or be 'compatible'. That's worrying.

Now they are going to use Crysis 2 to promote DX11.

Makes sense, back in the day far cry was one of the first dx9 games to show it off. then crysis did dx10.

shame it's not gonna be PC only this time

means we should expect some dumbing down so it runs well on consoles too

It's exactly why I was one of the few people who really loved Far Cry 2.

Because it didn't give up half-way through and turn into an alien-fest. Crytek continually render these glorious tropical vistas and then after 40% of the game they move it to tunnels/ice and introduce generic enemies. Meh.

Anyway, Crysis doesn't look nicer than Far Cry 2 or many other games that run perfectly well on medium-high hardware. Crysis still hasn't found a PC that can run it as it's meant to be. Plus it didn't take very long for people to upgrade the textures (the supposed top-end ones) anyway.

/end pointless slightly-off-topic rant.

Game developers need to realise the graphics don't make the game they're only there as an added bonus. Gameplay is the most important factor in a game, period. An upgrade to DX11 so soon seems hardly worth it tbh.

I think it's because DX10, along with Vista natch, was such a huge failure.

The Crysis hack showed pretty much all of it's uberDX10GodRay rubbish could run under DX9 and at a higher frame-rate. Company of Heroes only had slightly better explosions and more flowers on the ground. Far Cry 2 only ran a frame or two quicker with slightly better AA. Stalker for sure looks ok, but not exactly a quantum leap forward from DX9. The only game that ever looked like taking full advantage of DX10 was Flight Sim X and they were artists impressions.

I think the main thing that demonstrates how DX10 was an improvement is google. See how many sites are lauding the insane improvements of DX10, and see how many are doing back to back comparison shots in a vain attempt at showing a difference between 9 and 10.

So hopefully 11 will be like Win7. It'll have all the fancy tricks of the Vista DX10, but with all the speed of the XP DX9.

Word on the grapevine is that STALKER dx11 has been delayed until Jan '10.

So maybe 1 title in October that may need patching to work. i.e. not native.

On such a thing as a launch of a new OS, Dx11, Dx11 cards even - I personally would have done a similar thing to what Apple did when they showcased their OSX dev kit, and invited programmers from a few areas to come up with titles for the phone/pod in a limited amount of time.

Even if they aren't groundbreaking money spinners, surely Microsoft themselves could/should get their own people to dev a game or 2 that would harness the qualities of Dx11 predominantly and include them in the OS install. Something simple like a desktop racing game and as basic as a shoot-em-up - anything to show off the new qualities it may boast.
