FLAC Encoding??

Hi all

Today a friend sent me a track from Withheld Temptation of which I already own the album for and have on my pc as a normal MP3 with about 192kbs to show me the quality difference.

I am totally awash with the difference of quality, and size is not a factor to me I've tonnes of harddrive space.

How do I freely rip my cd collection to my pc and get it into FLAC coding? is it just the lossless setting on MP11 or do I have a more flamboyant method required?

Here is the flac homepage, a little down the page it says how to rip from CD.

I think the easiest way is using winamp (full version), but there are other ways too.

I want to warn you against going totally flac. i went flac but a lot of my stuff became corrupted over time a reall p.i.t.a. - for me it wasnt a very stable codec.

just my 2c

Well I have been converting my collection of cd's to FLAC on my pc since I can never be assed with changing cd's.

So touch wood no more issues.

If space isn't an issue why haven't you just been ripping your collection to wav?

All FLAC does is compress uncompressed audio (i.e. wav, the format CD's use), like WinZip and WinRAR compress files.. it doesn't remove any frequencies like mp3.

Space is a form of issue and the quality of FLAC was superior to my normal 192kbs mp3's I had previously.

I am suited with FLAC and now I have a convenient method of ripping my collection and it has a cool little orange icon with Foobar I am suited :D
