Hi all,
I'm finally taking the plunge (no pun intended) and am going to order my water cooling gear next week. However, before I go an spend all my hard-earned cash, I just wanted to get your opinions/advice on the bits I'm looking at.
The loop will only be cooling the CPU to start, but I want to make it good enough to expand to other components in the not too distant future. All of it will be enclosed in my NZXT Switch 810 case (Note: Both HDD enclosures will remain in the case, as I'm currently running 5 hard drives).
For reference, the CPU is an i5 2500K, which will be getting overclocked once I'm cooling it with something other than the stock fan.
So here's the bits I've been looking at:
XSPC Raystorm CPU Waterblock
XSPC RX360 Radiator (fitting in the top of the chassis)
Laing D5 Vario Pump (Swiftech MCP655)
FrozenQ Liquid Fusion Dual Bay Reservoir (They look so cool...
)
Now for some questions (mostly around hosing, fittings and coolant)...
1. From the reviews I've read, this is good gear. But am I going massively overkill? (remember I do need some breathing room for future expansion!)
2. I'm looking at hosing and it's making my head hurt! I'm thinking of going with the Masterkleer PVC UV Green (ID:3/8 OD:5/8) but wanted your opinions on whether this is decent hose or not (what do you guys use/prefer).
3. If I get coloured hose, do I need coloured coolant?
4. If not, is it better to get coloured hose and clear coolant, or visa versa?
5. I've been looking at the Monsoon compression fittings (in green) and was wondering if anyone has used these before.
6. If so, are they good? Did you have problems with them? etc.
That's all for now, but I'm sure your feedback will raise a million more questions in my mind
Thank you all so much for your time, you must get loads of noobs like me asking you stupid questions! (Hopefully, I'll learn pretty fast)
