First Ever PC Build

Hello I'm new here.

I've decided to make a decent gaming pc and stay below £450-500 as my first build and I need some advice on things such as compatibility, whether or not I'm bottlenecking and I also really don't know which case, HDD and optical drive to get.

I've decided to use Scan.co.uk to buy the following components:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, S AM3, 3.4GHz, 8MB Cache, 125W

MOBO - Asus M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3 AMD 880G AM3 Motherboard

GPU - 1GB Gigabyte GTX 550 Ti OC, 40nm, 4200MHz

PSU: 650W PSU, Corsair Enthusiast Series 650TXV2UK

RAM: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 Classic, DDR3 1333Mhz

I appreciate any comments, thanks a lot.

BTW, did I post this in the wrong section?

It all looks good except you choose triple channel DDR3. Your mobo and CPU supports Dual channel DDR3. Here is a page of modules I would suggest...

http://www.scan.co.uk/search.aspx?q=corsair+dual+channel+ddr3

- Any Sata optical drive will do

- This is a good 1Tb HDD which doesn't break the bank...

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-...int-f3-sata-3gb-s-7200rpm-32mb-cache-89ms-ncq

- Case Is down to personal preference.

Any of these cases will fit all you're components in...

Hope this helps

The RAM is not ideal. You should opt for either 2 sticks or 4 sticks. So you should be taking a look at dual channel memory kits.

Also is future proofing an issue, or are you going to leave it once it's built?

Thanks a lot, I picked an optical drive and a case but I decided to go with a 500gb samsung HDD instead of the 1TB one seeing that I usually don't use up that much storage and I've also gone with corsair 4 GB (2x2) RAM for the dual channeling. One question: is 4GB sufficient for a decent gaming computer? If it is, I'll order all the components tonight.

Alright thanks for the reply man, I'm going with 2 1600mhz corsair 2GB sticks for the dual channeling.

And I'm going to leave it once its built.

Just to be on the safe side, get two 4GB sticks. There are some cheap kits so I'd get 8GB if I were you
