First build advice.

I'm aiming for a black and white colour scheme for my first build and subsequently currently have the following parts lined up.

CPU - i7 3770k

MOBO - ASUS SABERTOOTH z77

CPU cooler - Corsair H100

Case - NZXT Switch 810 (Black or white?)

RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum 16gb (2x8)

GPU - EVGA GTX 670 (Standard or FTW?)

PSU - Corsair ax850

HDD - 1tb WD Caviar Black

SSD - Samsung 830 series 120gb

Optical Drive - Samsung blu-ray combo drive

OS - Windows 7 Ultimate

I'd also be looking to add the corsair braided cables and air series fans in the near future.

So how best to implement my colour scheme?

*Disclaimer* Apologies if I went about this the wrong way, this is my first post on the site. ^_^

Apart from the dominator platinum being massively overpriced this'll be a great system. Then again if you really have all that money why the hell not!

Also the FTW will be better if you don't plan on overclocking yourself but if you're comfortable doing that you can prob save yourself a bit and get the standard. Another thing to note is the FTW may have a modified PCB which could be a problem if you wish to watercool it in the future

But the Platinum's sexiness makes it worth the money I think :) I'd say go for the FTW too, it actually uses a reference 680 PCB so it's still easy if you want to find backplates or watercooling blocks.

If he's right about the reference 680 PCB which i think he might be then you're probably ok. And yes the platinums are goddamn sexy, i just wish i could afford them

What's the PC going to be used for? If it's just for gaming go for an i5 3570K and 8GB of RAM, if your gonna be doing some rendering, video editing or similar uses then a 3770K is the one to go for. Also, i'd say go for a non-reference GTX 670 as the reference coolers are pretty poor imo, The Asus DirectCUii with it's awesome backplate would fit in nicely with the colour scheme and it's the best 670 out there atm. Also, make sure your ram is rated at 1.5V or less and is 1600MHz as anything above 1600 is a waste of money. Speaking of money the Dominator Platinums do look amazing but they're ridiculously expensive, so defo consider going with a 8GB or 16GB (depending on what the PC will be used for) set of Corsair Vengeance or Mushkin Ridgeback or something similar. You may also want to get a new set of fans for the H100 as the stock ones are loud. A set of 2x120mm Akasa Apache's or Corsair SP Quiet Editions would do the job nicely

Cheers for all the help, I'll probably go for the FTW edition and stick with the i7 as I could do with the hyperthreading.

Has anyone got any opinions as to what colour case I should go for?

If your gonna do 3D modelling and animation it might make more sense to go X79 and get a 3930K

How much of a difference will the two extra cores make? Do you think it will be worth the increased price bearing in mind I'm not sure how much time I'll spend doing it?

Well it depends on how much 3D modelling, rendering, animating, etc you will be doing. If it's a considerable amount than the 3930k would be more than worth it in the long run.

if you only do the odd bit of rendering get the 3770k...
if you do loads of rendering get the 3930k

a white switch 810 and corsair dominator platinum´s would look proper nice mate

I'm looking to spend around £1500.

I'll probably just stick with the 3770k then, now I just need to find some corsair dominator platinum in stock so I can order all my parts.

It's not released yet is it? And it's very expensive.

I would recommend you just go with some Black Vengance

That would explain why it's 'out of stock' everywhere then, any idea when it's set to be released?

I was initially going to get the white vengeance but the aesthetics of the new dominator have won me over, unless I'm going to have to wait more than a fortnight for it to be released, in which case I'll probably go for the black vengeance as you suggested.
