Finally Some EXPERT Magic with X2 4800

Mav have you ever considered using either Dice or LN2 to see how how you could get?

Or even using pelts/prommie on your 7800's

I have used a waterchiller and found that it's an amazing piece of kit.

Having said that - 7800's dont get that hot and I can easily maintain temps of just 8 degrees above room temp with a 120.2 rad with 2 fans set at 7v that's volt modded cards too :B

The other side for me is that I dont do ultra-extreme simply as my rig is a gaming system (although 2005 has been a year of benching for me) and I want something I can use 24/7 - LN2 and dry ice are not the answer.

Part of my pride is that anyone can buy the kit I have and (hopefully) achieve the same results - I am a champion for the overclocker who uses standard products to give them best performance.

The only step over that mark was volt modding the graphics cards simply becuase they ran so cool already and the overclock was definitely limited by the voltage supplied - volt modding is essential on a 256MB GTX ;)

If I was gonna use a chiller again I would chill the whole system.

Mav are you using the same bios setting that you had when using the non Expert dfi board? Reason I ask is that I am having trouble getting the the ram stable at 510mhz with the exact same setting that I used on my old Dfi nf4 board, It just puts up 1000 of errors in memtest 86 with the same parameters. I have tried the new beta bios too which is worst.

any pointer on where I'm going wrong? What ram slots are you using? Cheers.

Mav has changed to the latest bios which can be found on the DFI website it has helped him with stability issues. It is only a beta version at the mow but seems better.

Yeah thats the one I refer to in my post, I found it to be no better, I am gonna try the big toe 704 bios modded for expert boards, I hope that helps.

Right just got mine stable in memtest 86 with the ocz VX at a sedate 510mhz @2-2-2-6, this is what they used to do on the old board too as they are still to be burned in so am happy with that, Seems to not like using high voltage ram in the yellow slots which were causing untold errors, in the orange everything seems sweet altough its early yet. Now its all stable I can see if its gonna allow for a better overclock than the standard board.

You have to use the orange slots my friend.

I found I was able to be more stable using less DIMM volts than on previous non-expert unit - but try both ways slightly increasing and decreasing the volts.

I found the 07/12 BETA BIOS to allow me to run tighter timings on the ram (same as NON-EXPERT) the BT704 bios also allowed that, but was not as stable for me.

The beta 07/12 bios was not at all stable for me and I had trouble even getting into the bios screen. Care to share your any changes to your bios setting that you feel improved stabillity for Bh5 ram?

All I was hoping for was the board to perform thet same as a non expert dfi board but without the tendency to kill ram when using the 5v rail for the dimmis and also a fix for the cold boot issus.

Switching to the orange slots seems to have achived this.

The board allows for a lot more fine graduations of the ram voltages which I think is gonna be very useful, with the old board sometime one voltage setting was not enough and the next step up was too much.

Does anyone know why Dfi keep messing around with the ram slots on there boards? The first Dfi sli-dr I had used the orange slots and wouldn't boot at all with the yellow, the second and third board used the yellow for high voltage ram but the orange for tccd ram and if I tried them visa versa i'd get no boot, and now the Expert is back to using the orange slots, it uses yellow and orange with high v ram but is a lot more stable in the orange, whats up with that:? .

A link to some Expert bios's, there not to much on there now as it such a new board.
