Looking at upgrading soon and have a final spec but would like your opinion before I go and spend alot of cash.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

Asus P5B Deluxe 965 Socket 775 Motherboard

XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI

Geil® Ultra DDR2 2.0GB PC6400 Dual Channel Kit (2 x 1GB) 800MHz (4-4-4-12) with Aluminium heat spreader

Also looking for water blocks for the cpu and graphics cards, any recommendations.

Does that spec seem ok..

Thanks, Sam

I can say it all looks good bar the ram.

Not that it may be bad ram, DDR2 just confuses the crap out of me. So im in no place to recomend it...

that system looks real good man, im no ram expert, but that looks pretty good, timings arnt that high, and its ddr2 800.

im sure ur going to OC ur cpu, so it should be all good

people have said that the newer revisions of the 6300 it has been harder to hit 3ghz, but i think u can do it, even that cpu at stock is a beast, and at 2.8-2.9 u would have no problems

quick question, what psu u getting with that rig?

Depends entierly on the chip, as with most overclocks. But looking at others results it should be possible under water.

Does your zalman CPU block not have a 775 adapter?

So it does, forgot about that, thanks Ham :)

I am running it all under my current Hiper 580W Modular psu which I have owned for 18 months now and its never let me down.

imho the hyper should just cut it. The 8800 will drain it though, so no new HDDs for you:p

And does this mean you'll be selling off your old parts?

Well I have nearly the same system as that - apart from I got OCZ ram when I won them in a compo w00tage. I got mine to 2.6ghz easily enough with just over 1.4v. Ill go further when i need it :p

Ok, Had a change of plan as I cant afford to upgrade my gfx yet and have been advised to wait until R600 is released as 8800 prices will drop.

So, anyone else got any recommendations towards a new motherboard, cpu and memory combo.

Well the e4300 is a fair winner imo. Both me and llwyds have achived good results.

The P5B Dlx is probably best for hassle free computing/overclocking atm. But if your tight for money n dont mind messing round with northbridge heatsinks i can now recomend the P5N-E SLI.

6600, lil more cache and most likely a better clocker. peronally if i went C2D id go for the DFI board, its more expensive, h/e im sure kemp and frag will tell u its well worth it. and unless u want some faster ram ur ram should be fine.

edit: was in the middle of typing this when i saw smiths post, if theres a price cut u could just wait... again its all up to u

So which is actually better, E6300 or the E4300 as the price difference is tiny.

As soon as I transfer to a new case I will sort out my motherboards cooling I should be able to get past 3.4, from there, who knows lol. 16 sec SuperPi1M isn't to be sniffed at though lol

Well the 6300 has a bigger cache which C2D seems to thrive on, but the 4300 OC's further and has a better multi

Is this a "now" thing or can ya wait a bit for C2D price cuts as mentioned above?

Well I dont HAVE to upgrade now, just thought now was the right time, i know my rig can last another couple of months so could easily wait if the price cuts are going to be worth it.
