Fan Controllers

So I am getting the NZXT switch 810 for my next case and since it does not have a fan controller I need to add one.

What fan controller do you all recommend?

I will be running a 280 mm rad in the bottom with the push pull configuration and a 420 in the top in push pull as well.

There will be a total of 12 fans in the case, is there a way to set up the 7 fan distribution block so that I can controller it all from the controller or no?

Any guidance here would be great, this is my first time to mess with fan controllers.

Thanks everyone!

You need a FC that powers 30w+.Lamptron have some at 45w in various designs and looks. Some fansplitters are needed, know for sure aquatuning have them in different colers.

I was thinkin about this myself. In my head i i were to create a board with a 12v input and a variable resistor after it. Then from there create a parallel circuit for each fan ( provided the power supply can supply enough power on the 12v line) and if necessary split the control from one 12v circuits to two if the power consumption was too high for the rail but i thinkyou would get away with one. I know some fan controllers can handle over 30w or a per channel ( its half one and i have a cold my r=v/i is all over the place. Im pretty sure

I did that wrong but i cant think to correct it. But in my head a method like that would work.

Kilo got in before me

Also. Phobya make a 1---->6 3pin fan splitter ive got a few on the way from specialtech or wcuk. Cant remember exactly i have that many orders in the last 2 weeks haha

I used the NZXT Sentry for my build and I modified a 4pin molex with a 3pin fan header to plug into it. I have 5 fans running off the 7 fan block. all I need for the 420 at top while you can do push/pull on the upper rad you'll find the push fan towards the front lays pretty much on top of the optical bay and theres no real need for a fan there. i left mine out. But my Senrty handles 30watts per channel. I bought some y splitters and have channel 1 to the block 2 and 3 for the front and rear fan and 4 and 5 for the lower 280mm rad.

You need one of these

Plug the 4pin molex into the hub and the 3pin into one of the channels on the fan controller. Then like the others said you could use splitter cables for each rad and have all of each rads fans on their own channel.

Also, take a look at the NZXT Sentry Mix, that has 50w per channel, plenty for running multiple fans off of one channel. Retell is running 7 from his fan hub using a molex to 3pin on one channel using the Sentry Mix .

I wouldn't run the fan hub off it to be honest but I reckon you would be able to get away with a couple of fans per channel.

It depends on the fan though so it's best to find out how many watts the fans you are going to be using will use but you should also allow each channel a couple of watts head room to make sure you don't overload.

Ya I have not really looked at fans yet, guess I need to get going on that task. What fans do you all recommend?

All my fans will be 140mm and I will be running a 280 as well as a 420 rad in push pull.

I found these that I like. I would not mind stepping it up to the

but man are they expensive!

I haven't looked at 140mm fans to be honest, the only ones I know off the top of my head that are good are the Cougar Vortex ones

http://www.watercool...25mm_22861.html

But they are pretty expensive.

For radiator fans look for ones with the highest static pressure (mm H20) and the highest CFM with the lowest DB you can find. Static pressure is more important than CFM for radiator fans but you still want ones with a decent amount of CFM.

Well what would be a good static pressure? I see the Cougar Vortex has a 1.38mm H20, is this decent, good, or great?

1.38 is good, with 120mm fans around 2.8 is the best you can get without buying ridiculously overpowered fans like Deltas. With 140mm fans though i'm guessing that you could get fans with more than 2.8 mmH20 but I haven't looked at 140mm fans because I have never used them so I don't know what the average specs for a good 140mm fan are. Just look for the highest you can find, the higher the better.
