Fallout 76 Receives Massive Update - PC Settings, Performance and Stability Improved

If Bethesda do any form of "Pay to Win" style crates there will be absolute hate and that will be the end of the game.

Dont think they want a lawsuit from the EU either. Its a delicate subsject right now.

There are no leaders. You are in teams. You can also jump into events etc.

The best thing to happen so far? some one launched a nuke. It was friggin terrifying.

We don't know exactly where it fell but it sent us into a mass of panic. We tried finding somewhere to hide, but were out in the open. So we just ran like jeff lmao. Then all of a sudden *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*. Like the deepest, sickest rumble you have ever heard, followed by a blast wave. Turns out we were miles away, but it was still absolutely terrifying.

^ that is what I am getting at. There are truly some really special moments to be had in this game, but you just can't keep it functioning long enough for them to keep coming as they need to.

The only thing I don't like about the gameplay itself is how you need to seriously have your multi tasking cap on. Like, you need to read loads, listen loads (you would need to do that with NPC in it also, though) and that is hard when you also need to speak to your team and sing along to every song on the radio *ahem*.

That's about it though. Like, the things I don't like about the gameplay. Graphics would be adequate if not for the constant fuzzing up, audio is sublime and the idea and design are also sound, IMO.

It's just the game itself. Like the entire engine and how it works.

As for me being biased? no way. You know me, a spade is a spade no matter how much you paint it, gold plate it or polish it. I wouldn't be coming out and saying what I've said so far otherwise.

I mean, this is team play Fallout with your friends. That in itself is like winning the lottery. It's just been appallingly implemented. Like, the guys who had the ideas and designed it etc? deserve a medal but the engine? jesus christ, a face only a mother could love.

Sounds like MMO concepts copied and added to their own plan. Even in Wow when the big guns showed in 1 zone, you had to run for cover before the whole area nuked anyone not under a shelter.

Id like to say give it more time, but seems like it will have a hard time recovering if it doesnt have a radical overhaul. Think No man sky. All the issues are gone, but hardly anyone plays it now, or will bother trusting the game to think about purchasing it.

Yup, the ice is very thin indeed for Todd and Co atm. They need to be extremely careful.

If, however, they really do plan on releasing their next two big titles on this engine? ermagherd.

Did you see that terminal message some one found, apparently by one of the Bethesda employees?

It was in Fallout 4. It's basically some big rant about the code being too much for the old engine, how restrained the coders were and etc. All because Bethesda won't move to a modern engine.

Funny thing is? that is why FO76 is so poor in performance terms. And I don't even think they can fix it tbh.

I can proudly say I have never played a MMO not ever, so I can't confirm or deny any comparisons. I'm not one to mix with others. I mean, we even have chat audio set to "team only".

Right now as it sits? seriously, don't waste your time on it because that is what you will be doing. All I want is for them to fix it, *and* sort out the private servers because for 40 mins yesterday I sat there on the message that it could not find a world for me to play in because they were all busy. And I don't want randoms nuking areas of my world either.

Like I say I like the base game. I think it is more than adequate. It's just literally everything else :(

I honestly dont get why they dont bite the bullet for one IP, outsource the engine and produce a new product, while they work on their own.

Its costly, but it will mean having their own engine once again later on.

I watched a video explaining all of it the other day. The long and short of it? Bethesda sold their soul to the devil when they allowed Zenimax to buy them. Now? Todd Howard can't even order a pack of pens before going through loads of aggro getting approval etc etc.

They are now a corporation. We've seen what happens when you let business take over gaming. It becomes all about making money, on a shoestring budget, with as little effort as possible.

Not the herculean effort we saw in FO3.

We won't ever see that again in another Fallout game. Not now it is corporation controlled.

It is an interesting time, I do wonder though how much would it cost to make a NEW engine and the time scale of say a 30 strong code team..

What do we think? few million, tens of millions, couple of years, 10 years? I'm no coder or game dev, I have made mods for games and do know they are very time consuming, example, my Trophy Truck for Assetto Corsa was 300+ hours for model build, texturing to importing and then working the physics out for a BETA stage.

That equates to £2,349 if I were on living wage for just 300 hours..

Big budget games need big budgets. It really is as simple as that. Fallout 3 took Bethesda about 7 years, IIRC. Maybe even 8. Mostly because of all of the content. That is what takes the time with Fallout games and any other RPG.

We won't see that again now from Bethesda not ever. Our biggest hope for a killer game now is that one Obsidian are making. No doubt it will absolutely smash it, then Obsidian will be taken over by a corporation and that will be them R worded. You know? the R word. Where a man forcibly has sex with some one?

That is what happens sadly. I just hope and pray that Borderlands 3 isn't cruddy too, as I would probably hang up my gaming hat if that happened. The time they are taking? all giving me positive vibes tbh. We know it is being made, they said "When it's ready" which is fine by me.

Good things take time.

If it's that bad doing co-op then I'll wait a while to play it, I'm not one who manages anger well when it comes to disconnections, I tend to rage quit too ^_^

Aye seriously bro I would avoid it like a dose of the clap for now.

Thankfully I had a thought earlier. 25" 240hz... Doom, Vulkan. That's what I am playing next, I never did finish it !

Ugh. Do I try it later and then have more disappoints, or, wait for six months?

Unreal Engine 4 was in development for around a decade(Somewhat separately to UE3's development) until it reached a public release, and has had about 5 more years of evolution since then. Frostbite has likely been in a similar total development time(Still a minimum of over a decade), with Unity and CryEngineV having slightly younger codebases. If Bethesda were to start creating a new engine in-house from scratch it'd probably be 3 or 4 more games on Creation Engine till it came to fruition. But given it's only used for two series that's not really a worth while move, so the realistic choices are to update Creation Engine(Still kinda young by game engine standards) or heavily modify someone else's engine to suit their content & development style(Probably the route they're taking, but still one that could take years of work before you can even get to full scale content creation given these games unique styles & goals).

Well, for some reason my pal who rage quit wanted to un-quit and try again. And, they fixed the locking up issue when you try and exit. Well, for me at least.

What they didn't fix was anything else, so it's still crash heaven. It also looks like total dog doo at 1080p. It was bad enough at 1440p haha.

Ah well. Next time I will put my foot down and not play it, even though it seemed to be working pretty well in single player :D Mine only crashed twice, but two of those it recovered from before I closed it. Very odd, flickering and sound loop and freeze.
