Fallout 76 Receives Massive Update - PC Settings, Performance and Stability Improved

Only buggy at the start. Always been that way. Always gets fixed. Same with any other game these days, don't see it as a valid argument. Just the nature of programming complex systems

Installed this last night and played it today. It's OK.Looks like it will be amazing to explore, but the distance graphics are blurry and it gives me a headache. FO4 was like this at launch too. Other than that? it doesn't need better graphics, it's more than presentable IMO. Runs quite nice too, though I do see and feel the dips into the 40s. And that is with Freesync enabled (not sure if it works though, 'cause VSR doesn't).

My mate is off tomorrow so we are going to get stuck in then. Should be a laugh with a chum or four.

Doesn't need them, they already have the atom store which you either get them by completing challenges or you can buy them which are quite pricey. Even if they did do loot it's only going to be cosmetic stuff.

OK so now I have played it for about an hour. I gotta say, as much as this amazes me I think I am with Wraith here, it's actually pretty good :/

I know people were whining about no NPC but in all honesty (maybe because I am autistic and hate conversation and small talk) I really don't miss them. Like, in Fallout 3 most of my favourite quests were the side/hidden/secret quests. Like obtaining the special weapons and so on.

I think the thing most people have not mentioned is that it is a new Fallout game, in a new Fallout world that when sorted out will look better than ever. You can really tell if they cut out the blurring of the distant stuff it really will look nice. The sun rays are lovely, the fog is awesome and the two together are really quite beautiful. The music is fantastic too.

But.

It just went odd when I used VATS (well, the auto targeting thing) and then the sound looped and it crashed to desktop.

There's still work to be done it would seem, but the game really isn't all that bad. From early impressions it's much better than BLOPS IV.

Told ya. The whole NPC thing, after about an hour I didn't even notice nor did I care as it's still immersive and as a fallout fan I know it's slightly shill-y I still love it, bugs and all.

Edit: V.A.Ts for me is only good for tiny creatures, it's nothing like it is with the older titles having no "bullet time".

The only thing I do not like about the gameplay is that going into the pip boy no longer slows or stops the action. Maybe there is a way to stimpak without going in there, but I died because I could not access them quickly enough.

As much as I wanted to hate it though? I can't. I mean, it's a new Fallout game with most of everything that I love. I can't wait to get my pal in with me.

Performance on Vega 64 is very good, but I am getting the odd jerkiness like every one else. Gotta say I love the world. It's bloody gorgeous and I love the new map too.

I can see myself wiling away many hours into this. Especially when I am over my mother's house where I rarely have to cook dinner lol.

Edit. Yup it's got me.

I tell you what I like about it so much? well it's obviously using the FO4 engine, but it's just so different in every single way to every Fallout game ever. Why? because the sun shines, the birds chirp and it just feels like you are somewhere so very new. I can't explain it, but it just feels so fresh and new.

I mustn't get carried away because my mate has been patiently waiting on me, but it's getting its hooks in :S

I wasn't going to get this for a while but it's only £15 online and looks quite good after this patch, would it run at all on a HD7870XT though? I've never played something that didn't run at least ok but those min specs are higher than I've seen on any game I've played I think(I don't play many games).

I highly doubt it, but you could give it a try.

Korreborg - I use a Xbone controller to play Fallout. There really wasn't a point in using the KBM with it because of VATS, and how your aim is so crap when you are at a low level it made no difference. Plus the time I spend playing for me is just too long to sit up at the desk. I lay back in my chair :D

1 thing I wish they would have given us an option for is the food and drink, On the highest difficulty in the stand-alone Fallout games ok yeah but as this doesn't give you the choice of a difficulty level I think it's a bit poo to force it on to people.

Dyou know in every fallout game I've played I've never eaten or drank anything. So I really like that feature. It's much more realistic. Usually I lived on stimpaks and radaway.

LOL sadly my buddy rage quit last night and refused to play it again until it was all fixed. I can't say I blame him, it is pretty terrible.

It must have crashed about five times for both of us, and when it did you couldn't alt and tab to get back to Windows so it meant hard reset.

I like the game, I love the world and the graphics are OK when they are not blurring to f**k but the stability is just about the worst I have ever experienced in any game.

It's very sad that you can see a decent game in there somewhere, but can't get to it because it simply won't stay running long enough :(

I'm pretty bummed man. I mean, co op fallout was always going to be excellent.

I wrote that PM up for Dice, but figured I may as well post it here. Shame.

Does any game need them? because it's not stopped them putting in loot boxes anyway :)

What I've heard there's an xp bonus, carry capacity bonus, damage bonus and rad resistance bonus. I would say these seem a very silly idea to put in as a shop bought item even if they are rare, and as Bethesda haven't done such a thing for ESO I find it hard to think they'd do it to 76

If this is like with previous Creation Engine games, you just can't switch the view away when it crashes and you alt-tab, you can still tab in to taskman and kill it using keyboard navigation(But blind). If you have previews enabled when you're alt tabbing then just use the little preview window to see what you're doing in taskman(You can't control and view at same time though).

Edit- Oh yeah this is assuming you can still Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get it up, might be a worse crash than those ones.

You can ctrl alt del but as soon as you touch anything it goes back to the crashed game.

It's just too broken to play. I mean the other Fallout games were bad but seriously? 76 makes them look like the Virgin Mary. It really is that bad.

The worst part is the "aliasing". This only seems to happen in harder to run areas. The problem? my Vega wasn't even hitting 1100mhz from the 1600 I had it clocked to, GPU use was awful (65% if you were lucky) and it would crawl into the low teens for no apparent reason (like, not because of a lack of GPU horse power).

FO4 did it at launch too. It would start out OK, you would get to an open area, performance would tank (so would GPU use and etc) and there would be no recovering from it unless you reloaded the game.

Maybe it's a memory overflow? IDK. Either way yeah, believe me we tried. We spent literally all day on it yesterday and only managed to get about 6 hours into the game.

I think it's just one to have the lid closed on it for a while. My mate seriously rage quit he was yelling and cussing.

Not sure I get how the Co Op thing works with friends. Surely if you play with more than 1 it ruins the experience for someone in your triad?

Lets say your friend assists with your quest. That saves "your" progress. You then help him or share same one. That saves his progress.

Next day you are with friend 2 who is far behind, so you help him. Already you are repeating the same content for him to catch up. (ok no different to any MMO boosting)

But if the three of you are unable to play together and switch around alot, doesnt this mean alot of repetitive play?

If you are all on same quest, does it save for all, or only the master of the group?
I like the co op concept but it sounds like an absolute grind. Seems like the fun is only feasible once main campaign is complete (if there is one). Even when I played wow, I preferred to play solo for much of the open world content, and group for the group specific quests and areas. Once max level it was more playable as a group. Plus the added exp bonus/perks for levelling with a "recruit a friend" had advantages.

And yes, the whole alt tab thing, ruined FO4 for me. That and the ever persistant non fixed power armor bug.

Sorry to say, but it seems like only the biased fans of the franchise seem to paint FO76 in a positive way. Never have I seen a bethesda product portrayed with such negativity. And when Alien (who needs to seek help for his love of Fallout products and gadgets :D :D :D,) gives up, that says alot for the game itself.

Any quest you do with some one who has not done it results in you both doing it, if that makes sense. Only one of you needs to concentrate. The other is just there to assist in killing things :D

There are no leaders. You are in teams. You can also jump into events etc.

The best thing to happen so far? some one launched a nuke. It was friggin terrifying.

We don't know exactly where it fell but it sent us into a mass of panic. We tried finding somewhere to hide, but were out in the open. So we just ran like jeff lmao. Then all of a sudden *BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*. Like the deepest, sickest rumble you have ever heard, followed by a blast wave. Turns out we were miles away, but it was still absolutely terrifying.

^ that is what I am getting at. There are truly some really special moments to be had in this game, but you just can't keep it functioning long enough for them to keep coming as they need to.

The only thing I don't like about the gameplay itself is how you need to seriously have your multi tasking cap on. Like, you need to read loads, listen loads (you would need to do that with NPC in it also, though) and that is hard when you also need to speak to your team and sing along to every song on the radio *ahem*.

That's about it though. Like, the things I don't like about the gameplay. Graphics would be adequate if not for the constant fuzzing up, audio is sublime and the idea and design are also sound, IMO.

It's just the game itself. Like the entire engine and how it works.

As for me being biased? no way. You know me, a spade is a spade no matter how much you paint it, gold plate it or polish it. I wouldn't be coming out and saying what I've said so far otherwise.

I mean, this is team play Fallout with your friends. That in itself is like winning the lottery. It's just been appallingly implemented. Like, the guys who had the ideas and designed it etc? deserve a medal but the engine? jesus christ, a face only a mother could love.

If Bethesda do any form of "Pay to Win" style crates there will be absolute hate and that will be the end of the game.
