It looks like some Fake AMD CPUs are in circulation as some Amazon Customers find a AM2 socket CPU under the heatspreader of their supposedly new AMD FM2+ CPU.

You don't buy from Amazon... for this?

Aaaaaand why I don't buy shit from amazon.

Reeeeaallly, the super random, once in a great while chance that some bogus CPUs get sold on Amazon and that is the reason you don't buy from them...

Lol, this sounds like some super edgy 7th grader in 1997 talking about $Microshaft.

Im literally rolling my eyes as hard as I can, This post was so cringeworthy I had to make an account just to call it out as stupid.

I'm presuming this is actually sellers who use Amazon as opposed to Amazon itself?

I'd agree with that. If i'm buying from amazon i don't see why i would buy from a seller but amazon. Sort of defeats the purpose. If i wanted to buy used i'd go to Ebay

I think that AMD and international courts have the right to start with the lawsuits.

  1. Fair trade laws
  2. AMD's reputation is quite getting scorned here

Hmmm I'm assuming Amazon wasn't aware that the CPUs in the A8 7600 packaging and heatspreader were actually Athlon 64 X2 5200+ chips. They would not take a risk with that with the reputation that they have. Maybe it was a dodgy distributor that ripped Amazon off. I'm assuming they can trace this back though.

Not everyone may think as rationally as us but I don't think any less of AMD because of this, unless people prove that AMD themselves shipped them out like this.

So I guess the issue is that CPUs are being packaged in the wrong boxes. Amazon doesnt actually package products, they just distribute them, right? If so, I don't really think Amazon is to blame. It was an honest mistake as far as I can see.

You are not an Intel/NVIDIA fanboy. I've heard a lot of stupid things from those guys, blaming AMD for something like that would mean bad reputation to people who are unfamiliar

People blaming AMD? Really?

I don't believe that AMD would do this. Not for a moment.
Whoever did is going to be up to their eyeballs in litigation.

I've seen a very small handful of these CPUs supposedly sold by Amazon.

The main problem with Amazon is that they sell returns without checking them properly. I've bought quite a few items from their warehouse (I don't any more it's only a quid or two cheaper now, shame) and so this could be a simple case of some dishonest erm, person, putting their old CPU in the box and sending it back for a refund knowing Amazon don't have the personnel in place to check it over properly.

I remember reading the reviews of an electric plane I bought. People were complaining that the toe plate was plastic and had warped out of line (meaning your planing was screwed). I bought one and guess what? it was full of wood chippings and the toe plate was about as square as my arse.

So back it went...
