It's been a while since EVGA have graced our review pages, and they're back with a bang as we take a look at their Classified version of the GTX980Ti.

EVGA GTX980Ti Classified ACX 2.0 Review

Great review, I got this card 4 days ago, Brilliant piece of kit, Was also able to reach 1500/8000 stable, Quite refreshing coming from the Fury X which didn't overclock so well.

Evga needs to do some more homework, all 980Ti ACX are above 75C or near 80C..Might as well get stock cooler then.. :p

So far Zotac amp Extreme and GB wf3x are the coolest.

If you do a 1:1 fan curve on the classy it rarely goes over 66'c and it's still very quiet which surprised me :)

The trade off is always usually noise. If a cooler is better it usually needs to make more noise to do so.

In this case it doesn't though, Honestly I can have the cooler run at 60% and it's still incredibly quiet :)

ACX was designed to be incredibly quiet. That's why they made replacement coolers for the 780, Titan and so on. It was to replace the stock blower :)

Nice review TTL, is there a massive difference between this and the FTW though?

Yeah an absolutely huge difference.. The bios....

Jokes aside it's usually just as simple as flashing on a slightly higher clocked bios. I did it with my Palit Titan Blacks, et voila, EVGA FTWs :D

The FTW card is basically just a slightly modified reference board, Slightly better power delivery but much better cooling.

The Classified is a step above in both cooling and power delivery with a much bigger custom board, Better cooling and dual bios, Basically one of the best 980 Ti's you can get along with the HOF and Lightning.

Slightly more than just the bios :p

The Classified has a larger cooler with more surface area and bigger fans, more power phases and consequently a higher power draw limit (300W vs 275W). Memory supplier can vary but in general Classified cards use Samsung chips.

FTW and Classifieds have the same factory overclock of 1190/1291, it's a hardware difference not just a BIOS, you are thinking of reference vs. superclocks.

I got Hynix chips with mine but I can run 8200 stable so I'm not complaining ^_^

I was yeah.

I thought they might have done a Classified FTW or something like they usually do. EVGA usually offer a few different flavours of the same thing :)

Just a few :p I'm surprised retaillers don't hate them for having 10 980Ti SKU's. The reference Superclock, ACX and Superclock+ should be axed, they don't really add much to the range IMO.

To my knowledge there's never been a Classified FTW as it usually goes -

Reference
Reference Superclocked
ACX Superclocked
ACX Superclocked +
FTW
Classified
Hydro Copper

And now the Kingpin as well as the reference Hydro cards.

Aw man I completely overlooked this review last year - how did that happen?! So very late to the party bit good review of an awesome card! Because of their unparalleled RMA / warranty I'm thinking of going back to EVGA (had a 770 ACX). Wish I was in the market for a Ti - I'd pick up a classified.

What exactly lights up on the backplate?

Tom, if you happen to have some pics lying around of it in the system could upload a couple?

After the ease of my recent RMA with EVGA, from now on the only Nvidia cards I buy will be EVGA, although to my ears I find the ACX 2.0 on my 980 to be a little on the loud side with quite an annoying pitch at minimum fan speed (25%@1150 RPM) and just allot of fan noise once above 38-39% 1700-1750rpm.

Remembering my 770 cooler I found it quite silent, even at higher speeds. I expect ACX 2.0 to be quieter. Maybe your cooler is a bit iffy?
