EU to Get Windows 7 without IE

so you have to download you internet program first. save it to a pen drive and then install it after you installed windows 7 ...

wow how many people is that goona f**** up big time if they have a new pc and a new install and are billy no mates and have no access to extra pcs with internet connections ....

Mighty bold move that's all i can say ...

best there will be a short cut or some thing like that for a direct FTP or Download to IE 8 ....

I'm interested..

If u decide not to want IE8, how do u download FF ? (or whatever)

On another PC with a USB stick :p

Well done European Commission, it wasn't enough that MS gave everyone the ability to uninstall IE, you wanted it completely removed. Now loads of semi-n00b PC users are going to be stuck with no access to the internet after an install.

IMO the better option would be to have the option at install time..

Windows 7 Home

Windows 7 Home with IE8

Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows 7 Ultimate with IE8

..or whatever

Why not just not install it as default, but have it tickable within components afterwards?

I'm interested also - do Apple have to remove Safari from Leopard ?

Nah come on really

Its MS way of having a Stab back at the EU decision that's all. And guess who's right in the middle of it all ......

I'd actually quite like to see a 'modular' kind of windows install - probably developed by 3rd party.

First off it installs an extremely almost completely nlited barebone OS, then prompts you what additional programs you'd like to install (IE, FF, Opera, Avast, MS Spyware thingy...etc). Then off it goes, downloads the latest ones from the net and installs them all for you.

Hmmmm black Xp ... ops ... you didnt see that ...

It wont be long before it happens with windows 7 ...

I would be cool with this.

But what would really hack me off (on a different side note) is if they integrated IE8 with explorer.

LOL...."EU to get Windows 7 with only DOS prompt as shell"

Give me a + i was right lol ---

How does Microsoft expect purchasers of this product to access the Internet?

Customers who purchase new PCs with the E version of Windows 7 or who purchase the E version of the software package of Windows 7 will be able to add the browser of their choice via CD distribution, FTP installation, retail distribution, or other means.

PC manufacturers and distributors will, of course, continue to be able to add any browser they choose to their Windows 7 E machines.

Microsoft will be providing Internet Explorer 8 via FTP and on CD-ROMs at retail stores

"PC manufacturers and distributors will, of course, continue to be able to add any browser they choose to their Windows 7 E machines."

Translation: PC manufacturers will recieve a discount when pre installing IE8 on the windows 7 E machines.

Who pays these Euro cabbages to stick their noses into everything?

They come up with some stupid ideas. I am no fan of IE and mainly use Firefox
x64 but it is still a pain not supporting adobe, so I have to use IE as a backup browser to see graphics on some web pages.

I think it is going to make life really difficult for new users to get started and they might have problems getting updates as well?

well couldnt they have IE8 on the same O/S dvd as a clickable install

so you have the option to install it if you want?

it doesnnt install with the os but if you want to you can install it manually, will save headache for some im sure

although it will not come installed!

i wonder if it will have a tab in windows... like the tab you get to install windows live stuff like messenger etc..

no read above. it can be installed via FTP / CD or off a pen drive via a download from another pc ... that is it ....

Welcome to the days of windows 3 hahahahaha and bbs's

hmm suppose its alright

but i take it for firefox etc. we will just have to punch the address into explorer?

why can't they do it like tinyxp (edited mine for a legal serial so yeh tis legal)

as jim said, modular would rock
