Check what category Ethernet cable you are connecting with, i recently had 100mbps showing up from my 1000mbps (1gbit) port due to me using CAT5 cable. The ethernet port will detect the speed available ;)

CAT5e & CAT6 Ethernet cable will give you 1000mbps (1gbit) connection

Alright, you need to go to the network and sharing center click on the left where it says adapter settings you then right click on the ethernet adapter and click properties then in the new window you click on configure. Go to the advanced tab, there's a field called speed & duplex change the value there to the highest

i check the cable is say cat 6 on it , i also change the duplex to 1 gb and it cut out my internet and says not supported

Hmmm.. is the cable connected into port1 of the router? i would also check the speed rating of the router to make sure it supports 1gbit (i imagine it should being a new one) only other thing i can suggest is testing it with another ethernet cable as the one you are using could be dodgy.. process of elimination

The ethernet adapter should auto detect
