Eset seems the only decent AV 0.o

My license for ESET runs out this month so iv been trialling etc. alternatives

Nod32's detection rate has slipped up massively past couple of months - coming 8th in most tests.

So after testing Kaspersky 2009 and Avira (came top) I AM HATING THE SITUATION I AM IN

I mean, im even contemplating NO AV at all looking at how the competition bloat the system or just run plain crappy (startup, gaming etc.).

Other than nod32 (stick in there and hope for the best) are there any REAL alternatives in terms of performance and reliability.

Don`t personally make a big deal about anti virus stuff anymore. It`s been so long since I`ve personally hit anything.

If I`m building for some1 now and they`re a little interested, I`ll adopt the windows firewall and something like free-avg.

I trialed ESET & nod32 and ZA for Vista and they all had issues, whether it was deleting stuff it shouldn`t or hogging the system or networking woes.

ZA security suite for XP, no question. If ur online gaming tho, u`d have to settle for ESET.

None of them remove the newer fake-Anti Virus 2009 type annoyances. They `can` find them, but leave the creation files on the pc, so ur stuck in a loop.

There used to be a time where NOD32 was the only way to go

I can get 50% off a Nod32 license using student discount - it certainly still seems the least resource hogging of them all

People always go on about AVG as it's AV and Firewall.. While it does the job, I don't use it. I go for Avast which is free. It just sits in the background doing it's thing and I've never had a virus since using it. Also a very light program. That along with Windows Firewall as well as my routers hardware firewall I'm pretty happy with my cover.

Pfft, free-avg, free-avast, free anything really that sits there and makes the user feel happier.

Users are the biggest cause of viruses really.

QFT.

I've not had a virus in a looong time, with no protection besides my router's firewall.

Not had any problems with Kaspersky, although it does ask inane questions when using core temp and smart doctor.

I use AVG on my server and eee. Norton is worse than having the virus (600MB for an AV?!?!?)
