Elite: Dangerous owners who purchased the game on Frontier's website are to be given Steam keys so that they can easily migrate to the Steam Client if they wish.

Nice write-up mate! Very in-depth :)

Good thing Frontier does this. I feel like this is something every developer should do.

Nice write up dude... regarding the last bit, warning of the article, what game is there to more like a space action adventure game?...

I know EVE Online, but is there any more?...

This is nice for those where Steam works for them all the time, but for me I will stick to the standard launcher and keep it off Steam, and that way I don't have to deal with the usual BS that I get with Steam connections, also means I don't have to deal with them trying to remove my Steam account after logging in from a different IP address.

Either way it's good news for those who use Steam for all there games.

Ditto, i prefer to not be dependant on steam anymore.

When Elite: Dangerous was recently added to Steam many of it's current owners wondered if Frontier would provide them with Steam Codes

Lol *current owners screamed, shouted, cried, begged and pleaded* (just a minor correction there)

I wish Rockstar would give me a Steam key.

Why?

The overlay works perfectly fine of you need that, otherwise steam is just a client launcher for another launcher to update and launch a game!

Unless time logging is important to you :D

Does it not use Steam's cloud save for story mode?

Why would I want this on steam? I'd rather not put it on a drm platform.

faster downloads for a start ;)

Also re: steam overlay with none steam version of GTA does NOT work for me. Game won't even launch via steam, I get the launcher as expected but on game start it just crashes out. So no overlay for me.

Considering how terrible Rockstar's content delivery was on release, I'd much rather have had it download through steam.

Make sure you've got the GTAVLauncher.exe in steam and not GTA5.exe or PlayGTAV.exe?

yeah tried all three, there's been updates since i last gave it a go, but i'm not hopeful I'm also not really that bothered, only advantage to me is that I'm then 'playing' GTAV on steam instead of just sitting there. I'm not arsed enough to troubleshoot it, just assumed it was because the game was expecting to get x and y from steam but only got overlay so failed. *shrug*
