I wonder if this means in the future, those of us already using the launcher, if we must start using steam? Like they give us a key and we redeem it and just log back in through steam then the launcher and just continue where we left off?

I randomly opened the Steam store yesterday and boom! There it was. I'm surprised as well. Thought that those new sims will only be available through the devs sites.

What do you mean? The game let's you use mouse and keyboard. Some people report it's worse and some that it's better than joystick. Probably just opinions between individuals, however I didn't read too much into the joystick/mouse discussions in ED.

I only know about the discussions about it in Star Citizen and from the perspective of a joystick user this is one of the comments:
"Using M/Kb will get the job done and get it done fast but playing with a joystick is more enjoyable."

This might be the same issue in ED but I am not 100% sure on that.

I'd agree with that statement. However it don't think it's fast. It's much harder and you constantly will run into finger fatigue because your constantly mashing hard on the keys to turn left right up down and a combination of things.. on top of firing and thurst etc. It's much easier with J/T and they have buttons that do all that easily within reach. It will get the job done yeah but it spoils the game a little. All this is just personal experience as i played some of it with K/M before i got my HOTAS

Sorry didn't mean you can't use m/kb, I meant I can't fly with them didn't even get past the 2nd training mission lol I have a HOTAS just never used it so learning here I come

How good is this game for some one that has never played a space game with an open world?? Would this be worth what the asking price is? If you (your wife better...) lets you buy 1 new game then what would you spend your money on now - or wating for future releases...?

Elite is definitely more fun with HOTAS/joystick :) it plays much more like a dog fighter than a turret fighter (Star Citizen seems to have that feel from the feedback I've seen)
It's usable with keyboard and mouse with some practice but I still prefer Hotas :)

It's all just practice in the end, you'll be boosting through docking ports in no time ;)

I played Star Citizen after they made it free for a few days after PAX. I only used m/kb and damn it feels so great! After all, Roberts was behind Freelancer and for me this game had the best feel when it came to controlling a sim with a mouse.
This is quite important as there will be many players coming to SC that won't have a stick. There is an issue with that now though. The game apparently has both gimbaled and fixed weapons but the gimbaled ones can be fixed too.
In the end, optimal ways to fly is gimbaled with mouse or fixed with joystick and that raises issues because playing with a mouse is easier.

Anyway. We are talking about steering and combat but both of these sims are much, much more.

Might as well try ED first and SC when the open universe module is out.

To me, flying a spaceship should be ALL about a joystick :) and Elite is that, very reminiscent of X-Wing for me. Love it

Ive had it from first launch.
Use a kb\mouse for control.

The best description ive seen is a mile wide but only an inch deep.

Trading is the way to make money, if you like endless grinding in games, then its for you.
Bounty hunting is more fun, to a point, then its just the same thing over and over.
Mining is boring, it would be easier with the resource scanner, but its not in the game yet.
Exploration is only worth while in the early stages of the game.

I will check back into it from time to time, but once gta5 comes out, I cant see it being played at all.
