I dislike the pump housings. I wish they had a smooth finish like the centre piece. Would look like a nice stealth piece of tech.

Oooh mate, you've got to see one, assemble one and hear one, they didn't put a foot wrong with the Revo top. It's not a small thing so all of the detailing looks appropriate it's not small and messy as it can appear on a pure white product picture. When you see it in context it's very nice, very stealthy and ungodly quiet even for a D5. The bulky isolating mount makes it feel complete, the old ones needed a cover kit before they looked right but these are very good for the price.

The dual top is a bit weird though, it makes every side look like the back. I'd just get two singles every time.

I like, I've only just finished my first loop and I'm already wishing I had the funds to start a new project using this pump. I'm hooked.

I like the look of it. At first glance it looks like either a competition barrel for entry forms (for all you younger peoples it was before random number generators and the like picked winners) or a small nuclear device. I'm pretty sure I saw something similar in either Armageddon or a James Bond movie.

On a serious note - What are the benefits of dual pumps? Is it more for stronger flow, lower RPM or redundancy if one pump goes down?

In this case they are serial pumps. But you could configure dual pumps in parallel, serial or obviously two individual loops. Serial offers redundancy (if one pump fails it will have the performance of one pump) and double the head pressure. Parallel offers double the flow rate and the same head pressure however if one pump fails performance will fall drastically to far worse than having a single pump.

Awesome thanks for that. I'll admit i hadn't considered the dual loop options, just serial and parallel.
Thanks for the info :)

You know what, it is actually growing on me. Even if the housing looks like they copied the design from Lego wheels. I keep having this vision of a powerful barrel in my mind pumping that water around and ludicrous speed and silence.

But i have had a single D5, before. I just used a bitspower housing.

Must admit, my MCP35x2 are quiet at pwm 35% but go beyond 40% and its one hell of an annoying whine. Full speed is like hearing a bomb whistle through the air waiting to hit the ground.

Looks really cool and i'd buy something like this. Would be even more cool if you could just have the vario versions of the D5 and have them run at set speeds. Would be more useful than PWM imo

Price in US is 244.99 $ "OUCH!"

That's interesting it's $249 here in Australia and we're usually the ones that pay too much because of our exchange rate and small market. Either you guys are getting ripped off or we got lucky for once.

Dual D5's are just as annoying at medium to high speed. That's why I like running a dual pump setup. Let both spin at 2700RPM and it's pretty silent.
