They make all the custom PCBs blocks for Nvidia cards, but refuse to do anything for custom 480's and AMD in general.. they need to step up there game.

Erm... They do blocks for reference 480s already dude? And considering the only difference between a reference 480 and a custom one tends to be trying to control heat by slapping on a huge cooler, I'm sure that a water-cooled reference 480 will perform just as well as a custom one.
At least, I hope so, cos that's the way I'm going with my next build... :/

Yeah reference, not custom. Custom cards are different enough to wear a reference won't fit, not to mention the 8pins they use are more reliable for the card/board. And they very rarely do anything more than reference for AMD, which is why I said that.
And no, no custom air cooled card will ever perform as great as under water. These custom cards are designed to be silent till 70-75C. So they do hit those temps.

I can't blame EK for this. There are very few lower end cards that are catered for for good reason. There has been a shift recently, but mainly for the reference cards.
I can't see this changing any time soon or at all. The demand has and always will be for higher end cards to be water cooled. R&D costs need to be covered, so a healthy market share has to be help for custom PCB's to be developed for, plus the contemplation that 80%+ mid to lower tier cards are sold to a sector of the market that will never even contemplate water cooling, let alone creating a custom loop to use a block and back plate that costs as much as the card itself.

I get the money part, but considering EK make little to no changes between blocks except for design fits and they charge basically the exact same for nearly every block, I don't see the money issue anymore. They are charging for premium. If you go to EK, you know what you are paying for. They need to retain there Luxury/top of the line watercooling persona afterall. Or they really just could make a cheaper version using thinner materials, maybe less overall nickel plated, more plastic(not acrylic), etc for those cheaper custom cards. Market share isn't really a concern for them, it's a niche market, they already know the market share is small. The best they could do is capitalize to the biggest market they play in and try to bring the niche to more people. They already established themselves(my opinion at least) as the best WC company out there. Half the battle is already done.
Unless they are really struggling for money, then no they shouldn't take on the other market. They should instead focus on clearing out more competition to increase the niche market share they currently retain. I do see your point, but as a risk taker myself, i'm not really buying the money thing. I think they can do and be so much more. but you're not wrong in your view, I'm just not buying it
