EA Cancels Star Wars FPS and reveals 670 job cuts

People lost their jobs though. And those new Jedi games are very fun, so there was a decent chance that this one could have been something special. We'll never know.

I get it, but you would have to be a bit of a willy to work for EA knowing their track record.

Remember, people have choices in life.

As for it being something special? I doubt that, given they haven't provided anything special in over a decade. No doubt it would have been buggy, broken, another bad "movie tie in game" and full of micro transactions.

They really don't know anything else any more.

No EA game being cancelled was ever a bad day.

Anthem 2.0 was set to be the same equivalent as FF14 reborn. I really looked forward to it, and the set expansion.

With so many layoffs in the industry, do you really think some employees have an easy time, looking elsewhere even they arent enjoying EA? Some have to take what they can just to pay the bills.

That's a shame, The last few Star Wars games from EA have been really good, Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor were both excellent and Squadrons was quite a fun space combat shooter.

I didnt think much of them. Maybe Im just too much into the RPG style like KOTOR. Now that was a truely well made SW game.

That sounds like Stockholm syndrome.

Just because the world is having a bad time it does not excuse greed and poor games. Period.

Watch that video. Most notably the part where he talks about deflation, and how it is a good thing because it gets rid of companies who don't deserve to be making money.

It's long been known EA are awful. Ironically we are talking about Star Wars. Well how about that time when they released a Star Wars game that didn't even have a single player game in it? IE a complete cash in. FOR FIFTY DOLLARS.

Companies like this need to F.O.A.D. They give the industry a bad name and bad ideas.

How many of us reminisce about NFSU and in particular NFSU2?

That was achieved by money. Not dumb luck, or some sort of fluke. It was achieved by spending big money on a big production including everything (even the music).

THAT is why it is so good. Ever since then? they have nickle and dimed all of that away.

I mean really, it is like being in one of those abusive relationships where you end up not knowing any better. You just think that is how it is supposed to be.

We even touched upon this in another thread about getting half way through a game, going "meh" and then not playing it again. It's not us, it's the crap being fed to us now. Give us a good game? and we can still play all night like it's 2003.

As much as EA sucks, leaks are reliably saying that it was Disney that forced EA to make these cuts. They did it by increasing their take from each game that studios make—except Epic, which is still 0%. Disney and EA were locked into a contract that they couldn't break. But Disney found a way to increase their profits and force EA to break the contract because they would need to give Disney so much of the profits. That's why they've cancelled these games... because Disney wants Epic to be the only Star Wars developer and have access to Unreal engine, which they use for films, TV shows, games, etc.
