E6400 overclock on P5W DH

Ive done a good 2 hours overclocking and id like to show you my results. Hopefully i could also be helped to squeeze a little more outta this e6400?

My motherboard is an Asus P5W DH and i have 2 Gigs of SuperTalent DDRII 667mhz RAM.

The highest overclock i have got so far is shown in the screenshot below, with proof;

get.php

Ive tried everything to get this chip higher but it wont budge past 430 FSB. Is this the board/RAM/CPU limiting it?

Ive tried;

430x8 - RAM 645mhz (Wont Post)

425x8 - RAM 850mhz@2.3v - CPU@1.5v (Wont Post)

430x7 - RAM 645mhz (Still No Post)

So far this is my highest stable overclock;

400x8 - 3200mhz - RAM 800mhz

The strange thing is that it doesnt just become unstable... it wont post at all.

Anyone got any ideas to help me budge it a little higher? Or have i come to the limit now? :P

Alternatively, has anyone got a higher OC out of a P5W DH and an e6400??

I have got my E6400 up to 3.6ghz, but i cant get into windows, or should i say I am to lazy to figure out the problem.....And i think the board may be able to go a bit higher, not sure...

Hmm well thats a decent stable OC mate. More qould require more volts mefinks

Yeah ive read everywhere that people are getting stuck at about 420FSB. The hardcore overclockers have modded the board to allow more than 1.65v to the MCH which one person claimed it only got him a measly 430FSB. Not spectacular. I might get myself a P5B Deluxe soon enough :P Or just get a faster C2D :D

Well at the time it was the perfect upgrade from my p5nd2-sli deluxe :P

Ive read in other places though that at around the 400-450 mark alot of motherboards dont like it that much. Apparently if you skip off that area totally and go above it, itll start booting ok again? Is that anything to listen to or not? i havent had the time to try it.

I will try and find where i got that information from!

EDIT: Was the p965 chipsets that have the black hole between 350 and 400. So no worries there. The highest stable overclock with an e6400 and a p5w dh is 3.68ghz using a volt mod. Not my kinda thing really im afriad!

Get yourself a better clocking board and your be off! :)

I swear your voltage is slightly high for my like.. considering the speed. :eh:

Oh remember, every chip is an individual. So try not to follow over peoples clocks.. try and figure out your own. ;)

Ive taken it all the way upto 1.525v at one point trying to get a higher overclock! So i havent lowered it to the lowest stable value yet. And i need to tighten my RAM timings too!

Good luck on it matey!

I got my e6400 stable and cool at 3000mhz 8x375 @ 1.33v!

I couuld push this thing miles.

Anywho.. ring me up if you need any pointers!! ;)

Dude, thats old knowledge :P exactly how i had mine.

now its running 400x8 = 3.2ghz

Doesnt want to go past 425fsb for me.... give it a go? xD

Im seriously considering a LANPARTY UT NF680i LT SLI-T2R now :P

I <3 680I :) Only after serveral hours of trouble shooting why it wouldn't post :(

What was the problem and how did you fix it out of curiosity?

My mate has a BFG 680i. Its not the fixed LT version. It has voltage spiked his Dominators and killed them, he got them RMA'ed and now hes undervoltaged it so that the peak of the voltage spikes isnt enough to kill the RAM.

Known problem with the first revision of the chipsets.

Basically it didnt post first time, but I had everything hooked up and expected it to post, all i really did was unplug everything expept for one stick of ram vid card and processor, and just made sure it posted. Just had to hook everything up one by one i guess. Noob mistake on my part, i was in a bit of a hurry. But I also had a problem with random lockups every hour, solved by upping the volts on nb cpu ram and all the other options in the bios.

Heya Red Devil Rocker, nice job on the overclocking, any chance you can put your rigs specs in a sig? Including your HSF, or if you're using watercooling or phasechange (<you'd probably be in the 4G's if you were, but gotta ask).

I don't know if you're going to get any higher, that's about the same as I'm getting with my overclocking--- 405FSB. And its probably a combination of the cpu and ram thats determining your final overclock, which is pretty darn good for that E6400.

Just out of curiosity, what is your average room temperature?

Ive put my specs in my sig! I sure hope it shows up :P

Im still using air cooling. Tight budget as im a college student, no job and learning to drive :P Otheriwse id give watercooling a go!

Well seems to me as though its the motherboard limiting the FSB. Ive read around that the only way to get a higher FSB is by volt modding the motherboard. Im not skilled enough/prepared to do that though!

My RAM seems to be fine! Although its only 667mhz RAM its got a whole long way to go yet! Even when its overclocked to 800mhz running at 1:1 i can still tighten the latencies back down to 4-4-4-12 which is suprising as ive had them at 5-5-5-15 for overclocking purposes!

I have no idea on the average room temperature! But i think its time for a new HSF or at least some thermal compund. CPU is running at ~43C idle, and ~56C when running dual Orthos tests.

Hope this helps :)

woah at the VCore :eek:

here's mine:

c2d-cpuz.jpg

almost the same setup as you have only I have different RAM timings. I got mine to 430, but went for 3.2ghz for 24/7 :)

Jeez ok seems ive got my vcore up well too high! oops!

^^

im going to go and lower that now. hopefully this isnt going to cause a heat issue however.....

Having the voltage higher would prob produce more heat :)

Every chip is different tho. I norm just start at the default voltage and only go up when I have to.
