Dual Core or Quad?

Should I get an E6600 and wait a year or so and upgrade to Q6600 or should I go game less for like 2 months and wait for Q6600 to drop in price?

IMO, Quad Core is kinda useless right now as almost no games or apps can take advantage of the 2 extra cores. Personally, I would just wait until Quad Cores start becoming the norm and prices become lower.

But, if you're keen on getting a Quad, then at least wait for the AMD Phenoms to roll out before dishing out the money.

Meh, I`m just about finished with Medieval II and it only uses core_0. I`ve got a game that uses 2 cores, cant member its name atm, but 2 cores totally 50% usuage >.<

Hmm if I were to say Quad, u could, in theory, fold on 3 cores whilst playing on 1.

U wanna buy a processor to do that tho ?

I would like to confidently say buy as many cores as possible as u`r gaming is bound to improve over the next year.. but I can`t hand-on-heart say that.

It`s scandalous tbh.

If you possibly can, wait until July for the Intel prices to drop. Quad for $266, hard to beat that. Or dual would work for probably the next year; games will take at least that long to use more than 2 cores

I still find it amusing, we are only just utilising 2 cores, the software is finally catching up, but now we`ve moved on, thats not enough any more, everyone wants 4 cores. Truth is, its taken this long to get to utilise 2 cores, It`ll probably be at least a year if not more before we can utilise 4 cores...just think how long ago the x2 chips came out:cool:

Rise of the old thread!

Supreme commander uses 4 cores, Crysis will use 4 cores and UT3's new engine is optimised for multiple cores. Judging by history quite a few games were based on that engine so multi core future looks good.

Perhaps developers were slow to adopt multi cores as it was a new concept. Now it isn't and we should see a nice increase, probably not until Q1 08 though...

Anyone know if the game developers develop for say 2 cores or develope for multiply cores. therefor future proofing games.

New & future games, i.e the ones I mentioned are multi thread - they will take advantage of as many cores as possible.

Some games still may not be developed for multi thread, although from what I have been reading of late, it seems 2008's games will be using 2+ cores...

Now is it still better to have 2 super fast cores or 4 fast cores...
