Draining.

Right, How do I drain a whole loop?

I would expect the water to get stuck in the Rad.

I don't really wanna take the loop apart.. Anyone know any tricks? :)

What barbs you use?

compression barbs you dont have too drain the loop too take it out:D

but basicly, disconnect a pipe at the bottom (pump in?) of the loop OVER A BOWL and let it drain. Tip the pc/unmount the rad and tip too get the rest out.

So Basically.. I have to unmount the Rad? :(

More work!

Okay cool!

Ill get around to it laters.

Can I not just unmount the Res and tip from there? :o

What Ham said.

I pull out the bay res, open, flip it 180 in a bowl and get as much out like that.

Then I always stretch the pump out of the case, put in in a bowl, twist until a barb comes loose and let it drain.

Tip the case back/forward and the water from the rad comes out.

I just noticed the crap algae killing stuff hasn't worked. My loop has developed algae in the res, pump, and cpu block. I can't see in the rad but I bet it's in there too. I just want to get all my parts in and that damn case polished so I can clean everything up and move into my new case.

When u drain from the lowest connection - would u turn the pump on to speed it up ?

Or is there no point, just let gravity do it ?

I wouldnt run the pump with the lines open as there is a danger of running it dry and that can ruin some bearings.

Like Ham said just flip the comp as needed to drain. (un plugged of course)

Ye I just let gravity do the work, it only takes seconds anyway. As everyone has said already, tilting the case should get the remainder of the water out.

How would I go about cleaning the insides?

Without take the whole loop to bits? :)

Thanks for the feedback so far guys!

Hmmm just out of interest is there such thing which you actually put in the liquid and then let the loop run with pump turned on for a while and then the insides of teh parts become clean (as i know there is such thing for a cars engine, its called oil flush). geee could you use petrol? i think it should do the job, no?

maybe a rinse with some vinegar mixed with water.

I think the best way is to disassemble the system and clean it piece by piece.

Although I havent heard of it yet I wouldnt use petrol (some of its additives are known to attack parts in older cars)

If there's no sign of any gunk or algae I don't usually bother cleaning my loop. However, some people use a dilute detergent or disinfectant solution to quickly flush their loop with, but you'd have to be sure that anything you use doesn't damage the o-rings in the pump and blocks.

Cheers guys! :)

I think I will drain it and see how mucky the water is.. then decide how I will continue..

Probably only clean the parts I can get to easily. ;)

Just mix some white vinagar with distilled water and run it through your loop for about 45 minutes, then drain it, then run distilled water through your loop for like 20 minutes then do the same again and again then your loop should be clean :)

I'm going to clean my h20 setup up after 2yrs so going to give everything a good clean, i read that pouring coke into the radiator will give it a good clean, is that a good idea?

I dont like the idea of running that much sugar in anything...

Try the vinegar first.

vinegar works a charm. Just make sure you CLEAN it out propaly. or your water will be mucky. It needs washing out a fair few times :)

so add vinegar and let it sit for a hour then use hot water to flush it out then rinse with distilled water?

btw what type of vinegar to use?

i used white vinegar. Dont use normal tap water, try and use de-ionised/distilled water only. Just pour the vinegar mixed with distilled water into which ever component u wish to clean and leave it for an hour or so. then flush it a few times make sure its completly clean.
