Do we trust SMART?

Well my WD raptor has just thrown a wobbly. Few funny noises, BSODing and a few refusals too boot. Went to boot off a kubanatu live CD (i think my normal knoppix disk is allergic to the DVD-RW ive got installed atm). noticing the option 'Boot from 1st HDD' on the menu i thought id give it a shot.

Thing boots straight up.

Now my Raptor is 97% healthy according to speedfans smart readout. Can this be trusted? I know there's sporadic (sp?) death syndrome with components but in general how reliable is this figure?

Fingers crossed im just in need of a fresh format. 2nd motherboard on the same windows install is never a good thing:rolleyes:

WD do a really long waranty period ?

Slightest message from a drive that it`s physically knackered, and I`m getting rid of it.

Bit fussy, but meh.

Do note however that external things can make a drive report errors. Such as psu or an unstable system.
