Do u need WinXP64 to use 64 Patches

To be honest not tried windows 64 I dont see the point at the mo if they are still comming out with patches for windows xp pro so by the time they iron out all the bugs in windows 64 it will be at least 2008 or there abouts vista 2020

seems my bf2 runs fine on xp pro sp2

when i played bf2 it seemed like my internet was slowing me down more than my computer, and iv got 3mb. But yeh stick to xp, i say wait for mac osx to be ported to amd....

bf2 runs fine on win xp 64 some results iv seen are encouraging most promenantly the fact that 64bit optomised software llike windows is running faster but with the little amount of software about that take full advantage of 64 bit windows i dont see the point

WHY?

So you can be totally incompatible and have the most annoying OS ever where going near a corner of the screen makes everything go wrong?

I've had a bit of experience with XP64 and on the whole it was fairly good, I'll try and sum up a few of the most important points/issues I ran into.

1:- Drivers are still a bit of a pain in the ringer as most are still at beta stage if they exist at all. I couldn't find x64 drivers for my Logitech mouse and that made a lot of games quite the bitch to play (No thumb buttons). It seems a lot of manufacturers simply do not want to spend the time or money needed to support older products in 64 bit.

2:- Even with trimmed down services x64 consumes a lot of memory, I have no exact figures, but even with 1Gb of ram the hard-drive would sit there chugging away for a good 30 seconds after booting even with Raptors in raid0... something that never happens in 32bit I would think that 2Gb would be ideal.

3:- Working in windows is noticably quicker and slicker, it's kinda like everything going on in the background is just that little bit more efficient and it can be felt in-game too, most noticably in Battlefield II for me.

4:- Similarly you should find that other 32 bit games feel just a little bit smoother simply because everything else going on in the background is in 64 bit.

5:- Video encoding can be a problematic, some codecs just weren't available in a 64bit build, which is a shame as encoding is one place that I think would benefit most from the 64bit architecture.

6:- Severe lack of firewall and antivirus software for XP64... I never could find a good firewall. I must admit that Symantec Anti-virus 10 corporate worked a treat though.

7:- Installing a RAID array can be a bit of a nightmare with NF4, again due to driver issues. It is do-able though.

8:- And now the really bad news... it seems that XP64 has a 'much' lower tolerance to overclocking whether that be an intolerance to high FSB's or whether it was CPU speed causing the problem I can not tell you, all I know is that I had to knock my overclock down a few notches to get 100% stable in comparison to 32bit XP.

Overall I really did like XP64 and it has certainly whetted my appetite for longhorn/vista 64, but it's lack of tolerance to overclocking really was the thing that pushed me back to XP32. If you are feeling adventurous and don't mind hunting down solutions to little niggles and can handle turning down your OC then you'll like XP64, if not then save yourself the trouble.

No sweat dude,

The specs of the rig I was running XP64 on at that time are as follows:-

FX55 0.13 @ 250 x 11 - air-cooled

2 x 512Mb Mushkin Special 2-2-2 BH-6 @ 3.4v

The obligatory DFI NF4

X850 Platinum

Pair of 36Gb Raptors in RAID0

Audigy 1

OCZ Powerstream 520w

As i remember my FX was stable at 2.8Ghz in XP32 but would only run stable at 2750 under XP64.

The specs for my current rig are in my sig if you have them enabled.

:)

Games on XP x64!!!

This is a bit old thread and nobody posted here for a while but i have something to say...

Few days ago bought game Panzers Platinum (Phase One+Phase Two), instaled Phase One on my 2nd drive (took a bit while), after installation message poped up which said i need to restart to continue (i think coz there is some protection program on cd and during the set up it didn't asked for cd-key, so logically thinking it should continue set up after restart (i had similar stuff in Silent Hunter 3)), but after restart nothing happened??? I clicked on games icon on desctop and it throwed me the same message "insttalation finished bla, bla, bla restart your PC to continue. Did this restart thing quite a few times no luck, uninsttaled game from 2nd drive and reinsttaled on my main drive (on main drive game installed 2 times faster:?) but the same storry again.

Ok, after insttaled Phase Two, after installation no messages asking to restart, installation just finished and thats it, hit the shortcut button on desctop and then message pops up and says "this game is only supported by Windows 98/2000/XP"....

Conclusion: Panzers: Phase One and Phase Two just doesn't work on Windows XP 64 :@.

Also does anyone had aproblem with HL2 on XP x64. I experienced quite few crashes through the game (but was able to play on after i restarted game) and close to the end of game (stright after the part when Mr Freeman is scaned and lost all his weapons except gravity gun) there is the place where 2 guard is behind this security screen and you can suck up with your gravity gun some kind of ball and in the moment i shoot this ball at security guard game crashes and it's all the time the same place, i tried hundreds of times and game keeps crashing as soon as i shoot out this bloody ball :@. I cant remember i would have any odd crashes like this on XP 8).

Cheers
