A lot of us are all on A64's of some shape or form.

But to run the optimised 64bit patches for games do we need to be running winXP64?

Mav

I think you do unfortunately Mav. As already said deffo for farcry and I'd imagine very likely for other games also.

I wouldnt say so, i dont think there is much benefit in it at all AFAIK.

I thought Vista wasnt that far off, isnt it scheduled for second half of 2006?

But to enjoy 64bit goodness in todays games right now is it a good idea?

Plus - Vista (like all things from the vole) is bound to be bugged to hi heaven so it'll be a year before I upgrade to it.

The game patches that I have seen using 64bit extensions are truly great.

But if nothing else runs on it or if in fact WinXP 64 is bugged (like winME) then I'll give it a miss.

The Mods Got Power!!

The great thing about your comment Justin is that I can delete it :D

On the other hand with comments like that (spam in my opinion) you could be on Mastermind - specialist subject.............

STATING THE FRICKIN OBVIOUS!!!

Of course I could read reviews - but it's sometimes nice to hear from real peoples experience with the OS as I fear an actual review would go into far more depth than I am ever going to want or need.

Cheers

LOL, I googled it and couldn't actually find anything in the small time frame I allowed for it, so posting the point was good IMO.

I'm keeping a wide eye on this whole 64bit thing, what ever happened to Longhorn?

LOL Mav, had a bad day at all? As I said over MSN when I used it the OS seemed to make things so much faster.

Yeah I was a bit sharp - but maybe a little witty with it?

I might get and give it a go just to see - maybe post back some results here if I take it any further - see if anyone else has tried first I am gonna let this run for a few more days.

spot on m8 thought that myself. 380 posts in 4 months 360 was spam. ;)

you guys tell me to rd guides, i just thought i say the same thing. Probs mostly spam, it wasnt to build up my post count. It was to get my computer running and tlk to ppl rly

usually people like to hear from other people and if they had problems or not with patches etc etc.... reading gives ya some info but hearing from people gives ya more info like how the game or patch etc ran... if it slowed down the system *cough* like that would happen... and if they're any glitches after patching..

thats my experiance tho... i rather get info from people i know than read... but dont get me wrong i DO read info too

Okay Guys We Have All Had Our Say, back on topic pls

Okay before this spirals out of control - I was a little short with Justin, but (and forgive for saying it) I have a lot more experience in this arena - the question I had goes beyond reviews really - most experienced people understand that.

The guides that Justin had been asked to read were ones that would at least give him a base of where to start overclocking so that you had a better understanding of things we were advising him on.

On the other hand someone actually took the time to post linkies for you, making the task very easy indeed. Whereas your 'read reviews' comment is useless, unless you can back it up with linkies and could easily be contrude by others as SPAM - please be mindful in future.

We all have to start somewhere, Justin just picked the wrong thread to say what he chose to say. Although it's good to add comments and be part fo the community, useful ones are the ones we appreciate.

Cheers

Longhorn was a project name (like R520 became X1000 series) and it now has an offcial name 'Windows Vista'.

Ooh I see, I thought microsoft had completely scrapped Longhorn. Vista is a rubbish name IMO.
