For sometime I've wanted a-
http://www.redharbinger.com/blog/portfolio/cross-desk-complete/
But no one is selling it over hear in Australia and if i were to try import it from the U.S the postage would cost me astronomical amounts....would probably lead to me having to file for bankruptcy lol So not really an option.
Lets not forget that the desk is $2k+ to begin with.
Over the last few months I've been seeing post from all over the place of people building their own desks. Which has got me thinking "I'm a tradesman, I could build my own" granted I'm an electrician not a carpenter or cabinet maker but hey I've got skills haha.
I've been thinking about possible designs from making it completely out of timber (MDF springs to mind), Making a hybrid by building parts with timber and ripping apart a case to use things like the mobo try and I/O Slots, Or making a 3 way hybrid by using timber, Case parts and parts from an existing desk. Atm they're as just idea's rattling around inside my head.
So I was wondering if anyone out there that has attempted or completed a DIY Desk build has some advice on either Do's or Don'ts? So i don't end up making mistakes that you may of made during your build.
And further more i would just like to hear ideas from people in general about what they'd do if it were them doing the build. I'm only one man and i can't possibly think of everything so ideas from everyone are welcome.
Ultimately i'd like to build a somewhat refined Desk with a full blown OTT water cooling system that will be able to be disassemble with relative ease in case id ever need to transport it.
Can't wait to read what people have to say
Cheers,
Xrqute.
