disabling integrated graphics on 3770k

Hi all,
A newbie question : Is there a way to disable the integrated graphics on a 3770k and use a higher end dedicated card (gtx670) instead? I plan on using a MSI Z77A-GD65, I went to MSI's webpage and downloaded the manual and quick start guide and started reading. It sounds like I can disable it in the bios, but I'm not completely sure if I should . Is this a waste of time or Should I just go with a smaller VC and use virtu MPV OR use another MB and maybe a 2600k instead ? I googled this question about the 3770k and was reading responses from people that didn't really sound like they knew what they were doing. Any input on this please?

Ah dude, dont need to disable anything. Put card in. Change primary display to PCIE in bios if needed. Install drivers. Done.

Have you already bought the 3770K? Is this machine for gaming?

You don't need to disable anything - plug in the card (and run the monitor from the back of the card), install drivers and off you go. Virtu is hit and miss depending on the game - most people don't use it.

Thanks for the response Deejeta and Master&Puppet , after reading some more I found that out (sorry) . I've seen that some people don't like virtu because it doesn't work on all games.
I haven't bought the 3770k or MB yet , I plan to soon.
Ordering my case and psu today, but I'm still reading MB manual and trying to learn .

No problem, we are here to answer questions.

You are right about virtu - it is very hit and miss. Most people don't bother using it and just get a decent GPU which will work in all games.

If this pc is primarily for gaming then save some money and get the i5 3570K. The 3770K is the same processor but with hyperthreading (allowing it to work up to 8 threads at the same time instead of 1 per core). Games don't currently make use of that so it is not worth the considerable extra cost. Better to spend it on other components (or just save it).

Thanks for the response Master&Puppet,
It's good to know I have knowledgeable people to ask questions when I have some.
I will have more questions when it comes to setting up my motherboard .
I am kind of looking at the i5 3570k also , it is a bit less money, about $80 cheaper.
So far , I think I have a good selection of components , but still looking and reading.
Ordered a Corsair 650D , Corsair 760i psu and a EVGA GTX 670 FTW last night that should be here by the first of the month.
So I have a start.

I dont know if this will apply to the 3770k or the mobo youre talking about, but....

Ive had experiences where you had to have the monitor attached to a VGA or DVI port to the Onboard connectors (HDMI) didnt work the first time you boot up the new system. Then you enter BIOS and tell BIOS to look for the PEG (pci-express-graphics) first, on boot up. Save & exit. Move the connected cables to the graphics card and you should be fine after that. (HDMI should work this time)

This is just a "just in case" thing so when you build your new rig you dont freak when you cant get a picture on your monitor the first time you boot the rig up ;)

If it happens thats how you fix it. ;)

No worries mate. Sometimes someone throwing out a little info can save you from a big freak out later :D

From the sound of it, you build may well be identicle to mine. If not, they will be very similar. 3570k, MSI Z77A-GD65, but I'm planning on 1866mhz G.Skil ram, low profile,, as my case may not allow normal size ram once I fit a Corsair H100i to it. That will get thrown in about 2 weeks after I have a working mobo, cpu, and ram. I just hope stores in my area are stocking the H100i by the time January rolls around, none list it yet.

That's what I'm trying to do , gather as much info as I can before I get started.
There are some very nice people on this forum with alot of knowledge and hands on experience.
I did some google searches on some of this stuff and even I was saying "these people don't know what their doing", and I've never built a system.
In the past few weeks I've got alot of useful info , thanks to some members of this forum.
Hey Bang ,Are there memory height restriction for the H100i ? That's what I was planning on using.

Depends on the case mate. I'm using a Thermaltake Dokker for now The roof of the case is only about 30mm from the edge of the motherboard. The wattercooling radiator mounts are forward toward the open side of the case though, not in the middle. So an H100 should fit in there. The Dokker is promoted as being liquid cooling ready. Ive exchanged emails with one of he Thermaltake sales staff and he assures me a 240mm rad will fit, but I might have to use low profile ram. Thats really not an issue though, it just means I cant use Corsair 1866mhz ram as the dont make low profile modules in that speed. Geil and G.Skill make it though, and I settled on G.Skill

Low profile ram is about 33mm. Normal size is about 40mm. I think I'll have about 45mm to 50mm between the edge of the rad and the edge of the mobo. I reckon itll just be safer to get low profile ram and be done with it.

Building a system is super easy. A monkey can be trained to do it. All you should need is a philips head screwdriver, and depending on the case, maybe not even that. If you've ever changed a DVD or other optical drive, and a hard drive, you are well on your way to being an expert. If you need any tips just ask mate.

I plan on switching cases in the next couple months to a Corsair C70 in gun metal black. Ive seen some great reviews on it and theres more room at the top for a 240mm rad. The only thing is, I think the rad mounts are centered in the roof, so a push-pull setup might force the pull fans to be mounted outside the case. I'll check on it though.
