DirectX 12 will be supported on Windows 7 and Up

Thankfully this means more of us can stay with W7 :D

In summary, they had a spokesperson from Microsoft answer questions about DX12 and the first one that was asked was how far back DirectX 12 would be supported. He answered that they wanted to support the largest install base possible, so Windows 7 was the most logical step, due to all the people migrating from XP to 7.

This is fantastic news and one of the many great steps Microsoft has been making to become a better company due to the death of the 'Strategy Tax'. Satya Nadella has been making been making some amazing progress as (Get it?

) and IMO, the future of Microsoft is going in a much better direction.

Excellent news! Very happy with Windows 7 atm and really don't see any need to change, especially now.

Color me skeptical - I'll believe it when I see it, particularly with M$'s history.

In the event that it is true, I'll gladly stick with Windows 7.

If my themes worked with W8 I'd use it as they look too cool to abandon ^_^

But yeah I'm looking forward to DX12, Better performance is always welcome :)

fair play mate even i can appreciate the themes on W7, that one thing i am envious of

Yes, I was extremely happy when I first heard about this! I hope this is the beginning of a new direction with Satya Nadella as the new CEO. It seems that for starters he got rid of that idiotic clause which prevents inhouse competition between different microsoft products like Win7 vs Win8 or PC vs XBox. And if they pursue this direction, it'll hopefully mean more and better choices -> happier customers -> profit.

speaking of DX12 and Xbox1.. this is supposed to about double the power of the gpu in it... making 1080p easily obtainable. good news for devs and users

That's great news, I've not seen anything that would make me want to consider upgrading from W7 any time soon.

No just allows them to be more efficient with the hardware. The PS4 will probably get the same increases so it won't make much of a difference.

It will not make much of a difference in competition but it makes a difference to the users.
Well, implying that console peasants see a difference between 720p and 1080p. Or between 30fps and 60fps.

I prefer Win8, once you get used to the switching back and forth the search is AMAZING. Anything you can do on your Win7 I can do much faster in 8 thanks to the search.

This is good news, and if it does mean the Xbox One gets a performance boost then great, because the frame drops in Ghost's and Titanfall are getting annoying now and always when there is alot of action going on.

On the pc side, it will be great for those with mid range pc's.

is there actually a physical limitation preventing win7 running 11.1/11.2 i.e surely it's been hacked?
