That image is so misleading. Stay Classy Nvidia.

Basically from what I can find, the super low end AMD cards (such as the 5450) aren't GCN.

GCN cards are basically everything from the 74xx to the R9 2xx. So that includes cards like the r7 240, the rebadged 8xxx series and all of the fast stuff, like the 7990, 295x2 etc etc.

Everything about this is misleading. It's not even speculation, just layers of assumption. I don't see why old AMD cards should support any more stuff than old nVidia cards, surely they are both 'backported', which doesn't really matter because nobody knows what that means yet. o.O How was that worth reading I don't know anything more than I did earlier today. 960/970/980 are still the only true DX12 cards. All the DX11 cards from either manufacturer may or may not support DX12 to an extent that lies somewhere inbetween slightly and fully supporting DX12.

I remember when windows 10 developer preview surfaced, I saw somewhere that GeForce cards with 7xx GPU will be upgradable, not sure which others will be though.

It's nice to know I can hold on to my 1yr old GTX 780 for another few years to come so. :D

DX12 may not require new hardware but I suspect that cards launched after DX12 is available will run it a lot better than any of the existing cards.

Not to mention the drivers should be less of an issue. Getting any of the Nvidia/AMD cards to support it through drivers is bound to have issues.
