I'll probably be going to buy a core i7 in November, and I decided to also buy myself a new desk to go with it since my current one is just too small and old. But when I was browsing the catalogues of the stores available in my area I had the problem that a desk was either a. too large or b. way too small.
So I decided to go for a selfmade desk. I still have about a month to design it, so it will not be some fastmade square ... thing. I will need that month by the way, since this is my first AutoCAD project and I still need to learn some quite basic skills.
Well, my main design criteria:
- Surface
- More surface
- Cable management (I currently have 2 blocks of 6 230v plugs)
- Should not trap the air of my computer which will be below it
The first serious design I have:
The objects drawn in light grey are already existing objects like my wall and shelves. What should become the desk is in dark grey. To give some idea of distances: the desk is 2m (2000mm) wide.
And from below, which also shows the cable management properly. This cable management consists of 6mm triplex plates screwed under the 40x40mm bars every 172mm. These plates should keep all the cables up and hidden from view.
The two holes at the right are made to avoid heat being trapped below the desk when the computer exhausts it out of its back and top. I'm wondering wether to put some fans there or just leave it empty, what do you guys think?
Btw: the vertical hole is 120x360mm and the top hole could be extended to 200x200 for an Antec big boy.
