Dell starts using AMD processors

dell customer goes and decides to get a nice memory upgrade to his amd rig, oops corsair doesnt work with his shiny new cpu, but does he know that? nope.

pmsl at the above

maybe they will have custom mobo's made?

unlikely, the cost would be too extreme to warrant a switch to AMD in the first place. mybe someone can shine some light on this issue?

I thought Dell had Intel custom make the boards for them with the (proprietary) non-standard connectors. Everyone else gets virtually the same Intel boards, but with industry standard connectors. I may be wrong but it makes sense, Intel don't really like you having fun with their motherboards either

Just because conroe might destroy the current lineup of AMD processors doesnt mean its a bad move by dell to start switching to AMD. Conroe is more likely than not going to be very expensive for quite awhile, and the average consumer is still going to get more bang for their buck with an AMD. I see no problem with using asus mobo's either, and the newer AMD64's have much less memory compatibility problems....so I really do not see much of a downside for the consumer at all. Smart move by dell

Ehhh... Core Duo setups are going to be less expensive than "equivalent" (no such thing, rofl) AMD setups. Where you getting that info from?
