I have recently acquired a dell inspiron 530s (slimline) it does not include a TV tuner or a half decent graphics card

I am hoping to be upgrading the components in the PC as it doesn't actually have any.

my aim to is to make a pc that is a full on media center which means it needs to have:

handle 1080p [with a bit of cheeky gaming

]

7.1 surround sound

Digital TV (freeview)

These are the core features id like it to have however, being a slimline PC, it means that it can only have a TFX power supply. After doing a bit of research and consulting a friend, i have decided that im going to need a new PSU, A new sound card, graphics card and a TV tuner card.

so far i have decided to acquire the following psu, however im not sure as my friend told me 300w wont be enough for a decent graphics card.

i was hoping you awesome people would possibly be able to help me out with what low profile graphics card/psu to get as this was the only decent TFX psu i could find.

thanks a lot

you need to check with dell that aftermarket GPU's can be used, also see if you have the room and available slots, and you will need atleast a decent 450w fella so no 300w PSU

if you have sorted the above then its ither a 5770 or a gtx 460 depending on your pref, altho it does depend on what games you play,if its light light gaming and you just wanna watch blurays then a gtx 240 or a 220 will suffice for blurays or ati 5550 or a 5450 again its your choice.

any more issues just ask

thanks yeah, this is the massive problem. because i cannot find a PSU anything more than a 300W that will fit in the case (TFX)

hmmm by the looks of things your scrwed,i dont hink you will get a psu that size with enough amps, and looking at the pci lane and the width of the case a normal GPU will be to wide for the case so it wont close, and the monitor connector will hit the back of the case

sorry dude

maybe but you wonr find a gpu that fits the case, the width is to big on a gpu so it will poke out the case and you might lose a monitor connector

alot of low profile cards come with a slimline bracket aswell, and some come with a 2nd for the bit on the ribbon cable, not sure about the 5570 tho, looking at some reviews should answer that question

I had a friend with the same sort of problem and i just placed the PSU outside the case bit drastic but hey its me

Stop thinking about a new PSU. PSUs are made to ATX standard, dell motherboards don't conform to this. Attempting to stick the ATX connector onto a dell "ATX" connector will appear fine until you put power on and fry the motherboard and PSU. Google PSU, Dell and nonstandard for more.

A non dell PSU will write off all of your dell bits.

The best way to upgrade a Dell is to take a ferry from Dover to France and drop it in the sea about half way across.
