You thought 4K pushed out a lot of Pixels, new Dell are making a 5K display pushing almost 6.5 million more pixels than 4K!

Wow, Soon we'll get to a certain pixel density and resolution were we won't be able to tell the difference no matter how high they go.

Yeah, I thought my 1440p monitor was a lot of pixels! Now there is a monitor with 4x that!

It's a nice monitor but it's going to take one hell of a gpu setup to run that for gaming.

I know Dell are a decent company and offer good warranties but the price seems quite low for a Dell monitor, since they normally like to empty your wallets just for the name just like Apple do.

Seems a bit pointless to me, it is like they are just trying to one up everyone to get sales.
4K isn't even fully supported yet, plus the hardware to run it can't do it properly. It is going to take even more horse power to drive a 5k monitor.

Very interesting, when I first read the title I was like YES an Ultra wide 4k screen or a huge monitor but then 27" 16:9  really? That's hella density, totally undriveable right now and a bit small. I've always felt the 28" 4k screens are too small. I'd sooner have their Ultrasharp 32 still. Price ain't bad though and build quality looks good. Interesting.

No problem

My Titans have pushed 21.5 million pixels before running BF4 Maxed.:D

+1

NVidia and AMD get enough problems getting 4K right, the last thing we need is non standard resolutions to confuse things even more.

I am using the Ultrasharp 32 4K monitor, it is a really nice monitor with very good colours and resolution.

On the negative side it has a slow response time (not that it bothers me as I play games like Civ5 and RTW2) and is a bit quirky when booting up and engaging Displayport 1.2 so I can use 4K 60htz.

I recently sold my 4K monitor, Just have no use for it, To my eyes anything after 1440P looks pretty much the same, I've done tons of side by side comparisons and most of the differences are only in the aliasing.

For the minute 4K is for the e-peen crowd or people who need the real estate for productivity.

Balling, yeah that's exactly how i'd imagine it to be but tbh that still sounds awesome, i'll stick that or it's replacement on the bucket list for my X99 refresh GTX1000 series build ;)

It is a 16:9 resolution though and it would be useful for someone doing some major video editing or CAD/CAM. Why is it so weird to some of you? I mean, if this resolution is weird, why is 1440p not strange?

Like this IBM T221, http://goo.gl/hwIHtV, there will be folks that need a lot of pixels crammed into a small space and I don't mean gamers, lol.

for the price and size i don't know- i think it would be a great birthday present for my Dad, since he's looking for a new 4K monitor, but there's no way i would pay $2500, particularly when Dad feels like his current 28" is too small.

No one said the resolution was strange or weird at all, The size of the monitor however is strange, For such high pixel density and resolution something along the lines of 32" would make far more sense than 28".

Because it isn't something that you are going to get a lot of benefit out of compared to a 4K monitor. Yes the extra pixels are there, but there a very few people that would actually need them over 4K.

If you actually need to go 5K over 4K then fair enough, but as far as general use goes there isn't much point. Not until 4K is fully supported anyway.

I guess for working on 4k video it has a pretty strong niche?

That would be one use for it but then again a 4K monitor would be perfect for editing 4K video.

Don't get me wrong a 5K screen is better than a 4K screen, but seen as there aren't many things that are made for 4K at the moment then going 5K seems a bit pointless.

For games you are going to need 3-4 cards with more than 8GB of Vram seen as 4K already uses up to 6GB. There aren't many films shot in 4K yet so for watching films there is no real benefit either. Scaling is another issue, a lot of things don't scale properly in 4k yet either and going to 5K scaling is going to be even worse.

If the extra over 4K would be useful for work purposes then I can understand that but for general use as a monitor for playing games, web browsing and watching movies there isn't really any point in going 5K over 4K at the moment.

Its purely intended for presentations scematics and video calls.

They have not marketted the monitor for gaming at all. I mean c'mon who in their right mind would be a 5k 55inch "monitor" for gaming ;)

It's not 55 inch, It's 28 inch and I can think of a few people who would buy it *Cough* Kaapstad ^_^

I don't know if anybody has said, But is this monitor known to be TN? or IPS? or 60Hz? (Any other specs known basically? aha)

Im definitely interested in this monitor, Not for gaming, the resolution divided by 4 can be 2560x1440 so you can just push that resolution and it will still look great!

The reason I would be interested in this monitor is (this will get some flak I believe). But running OS X, the scaling function is brilliant. Far above the capability of Windows 8.1 currently. Which I suppose is the advantage in having such a closed operating system, with nearly every application optimised for the highDPI mode thanks to their 2012 released Retina Macbook Pros. I run a Hackintosh so I could run this monitor at 2560x1440 scaling, and it will look twice as sharp with no real drawbacks.
Then when I boot into Windows 8.1/9, (by the time I actually get one of these or similar), I can just run at 2560x1440 and game at that res.

I value this resolution over 4K any day... 4K scaled to 1080p can look as sharp as it likes there is not enough real estate...
