I'm building a new system I have got an Intel 980X from work but have nothing else I was thinking of getting a Gigabyte GA58A UD5 something a rather motherboard to go with it I've never built a system before. I'd like to have the option to overclock (tinker) down the track I was wondering what type of ram to use? I'm open on budget as work sort of pays for it but I don't need the ultimate stuff maybe just a bit below that any comments are most welcome btw I have no idea which ram to use as there seems to be so many brands and types I'm lost?

Corsair dominator GT but tbh dude the 980x doesnt require specific ram. As long as you get 6gb will be fine.

So somewhere between Dominator GT and Corsair Value Select and I should be fine I just need to remember the magic 6gb figure.

The NH-D14 is awesome on the 980 fella, youll get 4ghz at under 70c max easy peasy. Ive got my 980 at 4.4 for a 24/7 clock and it stays under 74c if I leave prime onb over night 
Not saying you will get yours that high but the noctua is the cooler of choice by ALL the team at OC3D

Hi again was afk for a bit as you do.
I did end up with a NH-D14 looks big from the outside of the box and picked up some Corsair TR3X6G1866C9DF 6GB (x2) I hope it will all fit in the case (Lian Li PC-X900) as I mentioned before I have never build a PC before but I do have minimal experience with blowing up components when I've tried to replace parts in the past. I have installed the power supply so far (Corsair HX1000) I had to remove the lower HDD cage to get it in. When the case arrived I thought maybe I should of got a full tower but I sort of like the dimensions of the mid tower it has a clean simplistic layout:

I'll try to record my build from here with pics something along the lines of computer built by watching youtubes and Googling how to build a PC. I think I've bitten off more than I can chew in one mouthful so I'm going to take my time and research each step as I put it all together. I'm still waiting on some fan cable extensions and a Lian Li SATA 4 in 1 combo cable should be here by Wednesday so the anchor's down until then.
