DDR2 Ram?

Ebuyer have a DDR2 Ram section and the prices seem to be the same as DDR even though the clock speed is higher (533MHz).

What is DDR2 ram? Just the name for ram over 400MHz? Will it clock down the same for boards with a lower FSB?

Cheers

DDR2 RAM is a different interface than DDR.

DDR has 184 pins and DDR2 has 204(I'll check in a sec)

DDR 2 can achieve higher bandwidths than DDR but timings tend to be far slacker.

Intel currently use DDR2 for their newest chipsets: AMD have not implemented DDR2 :)

Cheers for the info. I will probably stick with AMD for my new build so I'll check out DDR2 closer to the time to see if AMD are using it.

i dont think amd are going to use DDR2 to my knowledge i cant really remember, but i think there going straight to DDR3, any corrections please guys am i correct?

I heard they were thinking about DDR2... not really sure about DDR3 at all. Wasn't DDR2 going to be implemented sometime in 2006? <ghosts of memories>

AMD gets along just fine on DDR though, when you think about it... :D

Yep pretty much.

@ bloodthirst: the world of Computer components always has rumours floating around so one report saying that AMD will skip DDR2 doesn't mean they will. Plus thats about 2007 - quite a way off :)
