DDC in a box

Hi everyone,

Im in the final stages of assembling a passive WC rig, for ultimate silence I want to put the pump in a soundproofed lead lined aluminium box (yep its almost OCD) and i'm trying to decide on a pump ether d-tek db1's or liang ddc (9w) im just worried about cooking the ddc.

Does anyone have any experience with these in confined insulated spaces. would I have to actively cool it (water block for the pump ;) )

Do they have a tendency of dieing if they get too hot.

Chears

Depends on how much restriction is in the loop, if its working hard then it will get pretty toasty.

DDCs make very little noise anyway mate, if you were to mount it on some very soft feet i doubt you would be able to hear it at all through the case

If you're after ultimate silence then it does help to rest the pump on some vibration absorbing material, especially if you are using a thin aluminium enclosure. As long as you have some airflow over the pump it should be OK, and if you're really worried then sit the pump so that the warmest side is exposed to air. My Laing DDC (18W) sits on a gel pad and the base is about 40-45°C. I wouldn't say it's in a confined space though.
