I have swapped a few bits of equipment and bought some stuff, So i have decided to re-do my stacker. I'm gonna change to BTX and w/c my CPU, GFXs and chipset

Its gonna be a lot of my current hardware to begin with, including:

DFI SLI-DR

OPTY150

2x7800GTX 512mb

2x512mb Geil One BH5

PCP&C850

CM STACKER

120.3 Rad

DD TDX

5.25 Bay Res

And some stuff to aquire:

DFI Chipset Block

2x Maze4 or NV78 (not decided yet)

Raptors (dunno about Raid yet)

DD-D5 12v Pump

I've decided to change my format to BTX, against my better judgement but i wanna give it a try :)

First stage is to extend the precut hole in the bottom of the case to allow airflow for the 120.3 rad. And cut the back of the PSU Cage to accomodate the huge PCP&C850:



And installation of the x-flow fan. I think this thing is amazing, cools the memory a treat and it will also cool my Ramsinks on the 7800s (very quiet too):

Rig is looking good btw, definately keep us updated with a worklog and plenty of pix!
 
Man this rig looks like it'll real nice once it's finished. The chipset block is, by common consensus, useless. If you don't like the noise of the chipset fan, just get this, this (run passive without the fan), or this. With that X-Flow fan, there should be plenty of airflow going across those things, so temperatures shouldn't be a problem. As for the video card block, most people think that full-cover doesn't really matter and you're better off getting a DD Maze4, Swifty MCW60, or AquaXtreme MP-01, the MP-01 being the favorite (each can be found here). Here's a comparison of those 3 just for the heck of it. As another suggestion for the pump, a favorite is the AquaXtreme 50Z. It is a touch weaker than the D5 but has much less heatdump. It can be found here and here

The stock chipset hsf is garbage, even when lapped. It's common consensus that having a quality waterblock on your chipset is better than a garbage HSF.

Common consensus is that waterblock is worthless. Why do you think I suggested other air options?

Do you mean THAT waterblock as in the specific one that he's chosen or chipset blocks in general?
 
I'm not really bothered about any performance increases/decreases. The reasons for me having a block on the chipset is because the stock hsf is sooooo loud, the block has only cost me £10 (unused), and it is specifically for this board, meaning it will fit under my two 7800gtx's... plus it will look cool lol :D

Quit getting your information from cracker jack boxes. Chipset blocks give a SUBSTANTIAL drop in temperature which ultimately results in a cooler running, more stable computer with a higher capacity to overclock pending other hardware capability.

But add some restriction to your loop ;) O well, it's all good I suppose.

Edit: I've read through a lot on XS man... Just about everyone there says chipset block is useless. They say just get a decent aftermarket air
 
I'm not saying getting better cooling than stock is useless; I'm saying that using water for that better cooling just adds unnecessary restriction. A decent aftermarket air will do just fine.
