hi.

is it worth the money to get a d-link 604 router ?

how good is the firewall ?

im thinking of buying one when i have sleeped to lessen the strain on the computer.

the software firewall(zone alarm) does not work properly and claims to stop about 5-10 attemps a second.

good night.

We resell them at work, personally i wouldnt bother with them. firewall is average, wireless stability is average. .basically it is an average router. nothing special.

Why dont you use your current router, and build a super cheap pc and install a distro of linux and use that as a firewall?

I like that idea. I did that a few years ago when I lived in a different state and got bored one day. That was one of the coolest little projects as Nix lets you monitor in realtime the data being sent/received, very fun!

dont have any router at all at the moment.

electricity is a bit to expensive over here to do that.

i paid over 370€ last year, trying to keep it down.

and for the wireless, the router doesnt have that capability so.

belkin cant be found here.

will se what i do, the router is on sale for a couple of more days.

basicly d-link netgear and a couple of "noname" brands that can be found here.

willl not get the 604.

reviews says its good but enduser comments cuts it totally.

bad firmware and tends to just die way to often is 2 bad things i heard.

never seen etec in any store over here.

hows netgear ?

I have a Netgear router and it works great! It's 3 years old but it hasn't been used full time until about 8 months ago and it's held up great. I havn't had to power cycle it in the last 8 months either, unlike my old Belkin which kicked the bucket. I have to admit Belkin's RMA service is good tho. Sent my old router in, and got the new version of it back new in box. All I use it for now is the wireless for my PSP, but it works :).

i have a netgear. once i had a found a stable firmware and used a security option that was stable all is well.

With the latest firmware and and wep security enabled, my sisters laptop kept falling off the wireless network. downgraded the firmware and disabled security (enabled access list) all was good.
