AVForums has loads of posts with people asking advice etc.

Start a new thread on OC3D with your budget and we may help you :p

Budget is £0 atm :haha:

I don't know what to search for to bring a definite guide/info post on it, and I don't feel like going through all the posts there. I was just intrigued though :)

For example my sound card has this SPDIF thing on it and I'm wondering how would that get used?

I connect my Optical digital out on my PC to my AV receiver. My AV receiver drives my surround sound speakers.

Easy!

So you've got what? A logitech setup with Optical in?

Have you set your sound card to output via optical?

Lol sneaky Kempez!

I knew I didn't post in a thread named like this :D

Is the Optical Digital out a new connection or is it the same as SPDIF. I've got some kind of grey hole which looks like a usb shaped hole (the ones you plug into the printer) but much smaller. I'll go check my manual to see what it is...

I have... The optical isnt on soundcard, its going through the motherboard (can you do that?)

Its going into the amp on my z5500's

Well the optical on the motherboard belong's to the motherboard's onboard audio solution, so to use that you'll need to remove your existing soundcard, enable the onboard audio through the bios, load up the drivers, etc., etc.

BTW What soundcard do you have?
