Cuil to rival Google and Yahoo

Granted it's new, but I just tried it and the results were pretty crap in comparison to Google. Not only that but kept getting timeout errors and really slow searches.

Long live google :p

I just added a bit to the end of the article as to why there are timeouts and slow searches etc.

Yeah I guess/hope the results will improve with time.

The site has indexed 120 billion web pages, which it claims is three times more than any other search engine, and results are organised by ideas rather than just rankings.

According to the world's largest search engine, web addresses, or more accurately, URL Index has just topped 1 trillion. To put it another way, that's 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 (Non-US and scientific community) URL's.

nuff said. lol

edit:

btw guys, it seems that the system is different in the US as it is in the UK.

US: 1 trillion = 10 to the power of 12 (number of 0s)

UK: 1 trillion = 10 to the power of 18 (number of 0s)

Hence the reason I included non-US and scientific community after the real trillion :D US system doesn't make sense lol

Now THAT is 'nuff said

Google ftw

Yeah I totally don't get the way it organises stuff. I don't like it either. On page 1 of searching for overclock3d there is some really weird stuff. And what's wit the totally unrelated images.

Lol why are forums just NOW posting about this? Cuil has been around for a while now actualy. And i remember when Google first got started. It sucked worse than this. Google has been around for how many years now? Just give it time.

That's the thing really. We already have a Google that works perfectly. If this cant offer anything more than a 3 column view and a really weird sorting of results then it's not going to be worth waiting for imo.

must admit got some really wierd results when search the company on that site, even linked to a picture of a sandwich and nintendo ds games.....needs some more work i think

To many people are just to afraid of change imo.

Not really, it's just not very good. Google has got to the stage where it's so fantastic at finding stuff that I see no point in anything else. Why should I bother with the new search engine? I haven't found a good reason yet
