Crytek has been teasing the remaster since August 2019 (at least) and this mod was six months in the making. They could have known, or at least thought that something may be coming.

I also think that there will still be a market for the original after the remaster releases. Crytek or Saber interactive could make a mistake and some fans may prefer a modded version of the original. I'd personally not be happy if there wasn't an option to play with the original suit system. I don't like the dumbed-down suit modes of the consolised sequels.

Maybe they used the attention to Cyris that hype over the remake brought.
