so as some of you might have noticed i recently decided to disassemble my 900D waterloop, here's a picture for those who did not see it before

watercooling was a nice adventure, but it doesn't seem to be my cup of tea and i don't plan on repeating it any time soon

pretty happy with the h440 and my current rig so far

so let's get to the specifications

i7 4770k - currently running 4.2 GHz at 1.15v
MSI GD65 Gaming
Asus GTX 780
16GB Corsair Dominator GT 2133 MHz
Corsair H105 with SP120 Quiet Edition Fans - max. temp seems to be around 70C at 22C ambient
2x 120GB 840 Evo in Raid0
256GG Adata SP900
1TB Seagate Barracuda
Corsair AX860i

obviously i used most of the hardware i had in my previous build, however i sold one of the two 780s to a friend of mine

some of you might scratch their heads at this point as my H440 only houses one (!) SSD
i'm not 100% sure about this upgrade yet, but i might throw two 256GB 840 Pros in Raid0 in there

if you think there's not enough storage space in there, don't worry about that, got me a NAS with two 3TB WD Red drives a couple months ago

less text, more pictures? well, here you go. i suck at photographing things though

a backplate and lacing would complete this, I know I moan way too much about lacing but its so worth it beyond belief, your rig would go from a nice rig to an awesome rig even your pets would be proud of :P

Kudos Cru! I do like that, it's so clean and sleek.

ty!

i wanted to fit one of the XSPC backplates i have. but the screws are too short / holes don't line up correctly
might get one though

i had a look at lacing. i REALLY suck at those kinds things

+1 for the lacing ;) I did mine yesterday and it looks awesome!

Very awesome work. I applaud that you tried something and then decided its not for you and went with something different. I have one of these cases on my bench just looking at me (can't afford parts right now). The GD65 looks great in the case. Its a bit of a shame that the Graphics card covers part of the dragon heat-sink. Did you re-install the stock air cooler on the video card or just get a new one?

That looks friggin awesome Cru! Really nice build bud! For the lacing have you seen (you probably have) alpenwasser and maniacs tutorial? The video really has made me think to try it (When i get the dollar for the pretty cables)

Would love to see some night shots with all the things glowing in that rig ;)

yeah i have seen both of them. as i said, i am kinda terrible at those things

will try to get a good one later!

i've just seen a build on pcpartpicker of someone who used very fine sandpaper to sand down the green on the reference cooler. might have to try this. apparently it's white underneath a bit of green

Ah that's cool Cru. There are those plastic comb type things aswell (though i think some people said they can break quite easily sometimes)

Looking forward to the pics glowing night pics ;)

I'd be tempted to leave the gpu cooler, in case you ever sold it in the future. Then again i'm a sucker for glowing things! I have no idea about this, but maybe there would be a way to make a semi custom shroud just for the side of the gpu covering the GTX symbol... I have no idea! :p

nah i took a closer look when putting it back on
sanding down the green seems to be the best way i've seen so far

Yep it's transparent with a green coat of paint on it. Might even add a red coat after sanding it down? ;)

Nice build mate, will look great in the dungeon!

note sure as to how it would turn out. i'd rather leave it white as that's a colour that goes well with everything

Nice work Cru, I would say it even looks cleaner than your previous build. The cable combs aren't really that effective with the super dense Corsair sleeved cables, they just fall out, I think they are more for your fat MDPC-X shrinkless style sleeving so you better pull your finger out and do lacing ;) still i'm not going to.

I had a red and black theme with reference cooled 780's for a few months and in real life it didn't offend me that much. They are lovely coolers, the best i've ever had, I don't think I would try to change the colour of them.

If the lacing is too hard you could try cable combs. Very neat and nit that hard to do.

Extremely nice rig by the way.

I'm not here to offend anyone but honestly if lacing is too hard you should need help to wipe your butt.... "scary"=yes, looksdifficult=yes, isactuallydifficult=NOPE, as you can see on the cable lacing guide thread it takes about 20-30 minutes to master it and be able to do any cable in less than 2 minutes so I wouldn't exactly consider it hard :)

and on a side note, combs are too spaced apart IMO and are way too fragile for their price, lacing costs next to nothing, I got 30metres of lacing for 2eu lol, and good luck breaking lacing haha :P

If I may ask (and this isn't a critique, I'm just curious), what is it about
water cooling that you don't like?

Yeah, that's the only thing that sticks out to me a bit, good to see you're on
top of it. I have actually seen it being painted red by a few people, it might
actually be worth a shot. I think the crucial part would be to get the right
shade of red (which would probably a bit of a trial and error thing with the
light behind it and all that) and making the coat even so that it doesn't
look weird when it's lit and an equal part of light comes through the paint
across the entire surface. Besides, if the result does not satisfy you, you
could always sand it down a second time. ;)

As for the lacing, if you're not super clumsy it's actually not very difficult,
though it will take a little time to do, so if that's not your cup of tea that's
OK of course. Great to see people are so enthusiastic about it though,
that's awesome! :D

Oh yes, before I forget: I do rather like it overall, the H440 really does make
for very clean builds. :)
