Crucial launches their new BX500 series of ultra-affordable SSDs

why stopping at half a TB?

SSD around this size are good as OS drive.
but i buy only NVME SSD as OS drives today.

but for storage 500GB drives are not big enough.
you don´t need a record breaking fast SSD for storing data.
but i want to get rid of the big and vibrating harddrives in my cases.

yes hardrives can be put to sleep including motor spindown.
but then it takes an annoying few seconds before they wakeup again.
i do that.. not happy with it. SSD storage is better.

a middle of the road amateur photographer needs at least 1 TB for his photo collection i would say.
i need at least 2 TB for my main catalog.

a few games will fill up a 500GB drive pretty fast.

i also can´t wait for 2TB and 4TB drives to drop in price.

That's what the MX500 series is for. The BX series has always been entry-level.

imho you could make a SSD aimed for storage cheaper than the MX500 series.
i don´t need record IOPS etc. in such a drive. the specs of a 840 EVO would be perfect.
just make it 2-4TB, cheaper than current SSD and reliable.

i am waiting every day for the samsung QLC drives to be release....

Nice price but as others have said could we have bigger not top of the speed tables but cheaper 2TB SSD, though when I look at what games I play most 500GB would do but I'd still need storage for the ones I play now and then
